First off I must say I am very dissapointed at the turnout for the show. Half the seats in the arena were filled. the upper level was practically empty, the pit area was half filled. I figured on more ppl being there, especially for the video shoot.
The opening acts....basically sucked! Hella...well not much to say. i mean it was like a 30 min compilation of random stuff. there was no organized song. it sounded pretty bad.
After that the mars volta came out which was almost the samething...i think they had 3 songs? 2? over 45 mins of playing. singer was pretty good along with the music. but i mean it was just drowned out by drums and bass so u really couldnt understand much. then when the singer hit a high note the guitarist would match it with some sort of effect? ok enough griping....onto SYSTEM!
The Mezmerize curtain was up and eveyrone patiently waited for that moment. then the lights went out and u could see Daron in the light behind the curtain. ill review each song..probably all not in order. pretty close though.
There was this HUGE robotic arm holding a camera filming for the Hypnotize video. mostly crowd shots and of the band. it came by my section once or twice so I MIGHT be in the video somehow! im a against a wall lol. that camera was always in the way though but i didnt mind. the show was awesome! there were like 3 camera guys running around on stage randomly through the show filming as well as ppl on the floor filming up front of the pit section. They ended up playing Hypnotize twice since they were filming it. heres the songs. again not in order because i cant seem to remember the order. :NOTE: NO kill rock n roll? maybe to compensate playing Hypnotize twice? Soldier side - Sang beautifully by Daron...sounded PERFECT! BYOB - Daron did a sweet pick slide then lunged into the BYOB intro and the crowd went CRAZY! the song kicked off and everyone went wild and started jumping which kicked ass! Revenga - AMAZING live! i love the song..they did a great job. Serj sure loves to scream in the solo part. Know - Great classic! im glad they brought this song back live! they did a great job with it. Hypnotize - YES! they played it! which was sweet! its hard to describe this song. it was hard to make the lyrics out too. overall i cant wait for the studio version! hell i want the live version! it was so beautiful. very diff sounding i think from their mezmerize stuff. Suggestions - Another great song done great by the guys. when serj screamed gotta give a piece of ur ass! daron was smaking his ass and pointing to it. funny stuff. Needles - Awesome! Daron danced around a lot! and sang his part very well. its so fun to watch him run around. Deer Dance - Really got the crowd going. the pits came alive! and it was fun to watch. also fun to watch a crowd surfer get thrown into a crowd of unsuspecting ppl. I love this song even more live.....LOUD! Psycho - Daron had the crowd clap their hands to the intro. overall shavo was awesome..constantly goin around. during the "u dont have to be a ho" part daron was touching himself like a ho which was funny. ChopSuey - Again we clapped out hands to the intro and the whole crowd went nuts. it was pretty good. This Cocaine - Im know this didnt come after chopsuey but i cant remember the songs now...damn. but yeah this song was awesome live. Daron and Shavo both ran around alot. shavo really got into it with the crowd. Violent Porn - Daron did a little intro thing saying "SOMEBODY SAVE US" over and over ending with "WHERE ARE U JESUS!?" then went into it. this song was very FAST! and amazing live! Sad Statue - Daron did his red state blue state FUCK and make one purple state thing. This song was very good live. very energetic and heavy. Cigaro - Daron did his usual my cock is much bigger than yours ballad but changed a part to say " My cock....can fuck you like a whore"
This song was LOUD! VERY LOUD! which kicked ass! it was incredible how loud john was with the drums. Bounce - Daron made a little intro and got the crowd into it. he didnt play the verse part. instead just ran around dancing and doing crazy shit while serj sang "i went out on a date witha girl a bit late..." Shavo had everyone jump for the middle of the song. ATWA - Classic! everyone pulled out their lighters and sang along. Hypnotize (again) - Thats right i got to hear it TWICE! because of the whole filming thing. i didnt disagree! even better this time! Forest - Daron did his sing to the audience then have the audience sing back thing. he was playing as the conductor waiving to the audience. The song was very loud as well! kicked everyones ass. Lost In Hollywood - Awesome LIVE! Daron did a good job! Shavo even hummed along torward the end of the song. Question - pretty good. Shavos base pretty much silented Serj and his guitar but it was still cool to hear. War? - Daron did a little intro with the robot voice and some other effects. Also did the interlude soldiers marching on. Mr. Jack - Did the usual intro thing and the interlude in the middle of the song. torwards the end on the screen behind them it said FUCK YOU PIG! i thought that was awesome! Prison Song - basically ruled the night. everyone went crazy and daron said I BUY MY CRACK MY SMACK MY BITCH RIGHT HERE IN GRAND RAPIDS! which everyone went even MORE crazy. Aerials - Amazing live! cant be described! Sultans of swing - Another great job the daron and serj singing to it. Daron even did some of the solo. Toxicity - Pretty good! another one for the pit lovers Suite pee - Kicked ass! crowd really went nuts! Sugar - ALWAYS THE BEST FOR LAST! everyone even in the seats were jumping! torwards the end serj said NO LIGHTS? NO MUSIC? JUST ICECREAM! I LICKED EVERYONE! which was pretty funny. In the end Shavo fell down on stage for like 3 mins and Daron as well just kinda ran in circles for like 5 mins. then started humping his guitar on stage screwing with the switch on it.
Shavo and Daron both kept knocking their mic stands over so someone would comeout and pick it up. john through about 10 drum sticks into the crowd and that man has an arm!
throughout the show Shavo kept taking his of his bong and would randomly hit one of johns symbols. After that we all filed out of the most amazing concert of my life! cant wait for the video to comeout.
