Ozzfest- Virginia Beach August 5, 2006 Review |

After seeing System for the first time at Ozzfest in Buffalo, NY, my
boyfriend and I knew we had to see them again before their hiatus. We drove all
the way to Virginia Beach to catch another show, and it was definitely well
worth the 24 hour drive and $400.00 in gas to get there and back. The Buffalo
show was awesome, and I really didn't think it could be topped, but boy, was I
wrong! The Virginia Beach concert completely blew me away.
It was an extremely hot day. We got to the amphitheater around 2:00pm, in time
to see Atreyu and Black Label Society. They both did great. Zakk Wylde from BLS
is an amazing guitarist. After them, it was time to grab some cold beer and head
over to the main stage Very Happy
We had great seats, sixth row behind the pit. Dragon Force was all right I
guess- in my opinion they sort of sounded like Journey with a heavy kick. The
crowd wasn't that into them. Lacuna Coil was next, and I thought they were
really good. The dual male and female vocals aren't something you hear everyday.
Hatebreed was good, I got into them a little more than I did at the Buffalo
show. They did a great job pumping up the crowd. Very heavy! Avenged Sevenfold
were very good, except for technical difficulties with M. Shadows' mic. I don't
understand why so many people claim to hate them, there is no denying that they
put on a good show.
Next came Disturbed, of course. I was getting really excited because they did
awesome in Buffalo, and also because I knew that it wouldn't be long until it
was time for System. Disturbed definitely outdid their Buffalo show. They had a
lot of energy. There was a nerdy little venue security guy standing in front of
us and I loved the scared look on his face during the end part of The Sickness
when David Draiman goes a little nuts into the mic..... he looked like this
Shocked hehe
Now...on to System!
You will have to forgive me if some of these are in the wrong order, but I was
in sensory overload. I was so happy to be seeing them again, and after having
lawn seats at the Buffalo show, I was in awe seeing the band right in front of
me during this show.
Soldier Side Intro- Just Daron and he sounded great.
You could tell that Daron and Serj must have been sitting in the AC all day,
because they both came out in jackets and it was like a billion degrees outside.
Needless to say, the jackets came off quick!
Why do they always send the poor? BYOB came next. It sounds so good live!
Revenga- Serj is amazing, I cannot believe how well he keeps up with the fast
lyrics.
Needles- Daron came over to our side of the stage, turned around and stuck his
ass out at the audience, and pulled the tapeworm (his guitar) out of his
ass.....so cute Very Happy
Deer Dance
Attack- They faked us out during this song. They started playing a different
song before Attack, They never play this live! Then we saw Daron say
something to the other band members, and they switched to Attack all of a
sudden. They all had big smiles on their faces, as if to say "fooled ya". It was
great, but I really cannot remember the song that they faked us
with.........like I said above....sensory overload!
Ok, here is where the order is off:
Suite Pee- When we heard the intro to this song, my boyfriend and I lost it.
They didn't play it in Buffalo and I knew that they didn't play it much on this
tour. I felt privileged!
Psycho- I love, love, love this song live! Serj sang "you really don't have to
be a fuckin whore". I love it when they add little things here and there into
their songs.
Suggestions
Kill Rock N' Roll
War
Chop Suey
Cigaro- the song that Daron co-wrote with Dick Cheney- hehe
Lonely Day
Violent Pornography- Daron didn't do his speech before this song like he did at
other shows
Radio/ Video- The official dance song, according to Daron Smile Serj introduced
Harry Perry. During this song some guy dressed like a Star Wars storm trooper
came out on stage and started messing around with the band. Shavo and Serj
danced with him and Shavo moshed with him. After the song Shavo had him take off
his helmet and he told us that he gives the guy a lot of credit and he is a
"cool cat". It was hilarious and nice to see all of the band acting crazy and
silly.
Hypnotize- After hearing this song over and over again on the radio I stopped
liking it as much, but hearing it live was just amazing. It sounded so good.
Old School Hollywood
Lost In Hollywood
Question!
Sultans of Swing
Aerials- Serj played the electric guitar, which I don't think he did in Buffalo,
but I could be wrong.
Toxicity
Sugar- I love this song but was a little sad because I knew it was over. I tried
really hard to hear what Serj would say during the "sometimes my girl lashes out
at me" part, but he was singing so fast I couldn't understand. He was pointing
at his crotch though Razz
If I left any songs out, I apologize.
At the Buffalo show, Daron did most of the talking, but at this one I noticed
Serj was way more involved in talking to the audience. Throughout the show Shavo
was throwing bottles of water on the pit, and flicking his picks out at people.
His artwork was amazing. We did see them light up about halfway though the show.
I really wish I could remember every last detail to tell you all. There were so
many great things going on. My one regret is that we didn't try to bring our
digital camera in. The ticket said no cameras and I didn't want to get it taken
away. Of course when we got in, I noticed tons of people with digital cameras.
Inside we bought a shitty disposable one , and hardly any of the pics came out
Sad
This concert was so amazing, words cannot adequately describe it.
Every song sounded great and after seeing this show, I am not worried that they
will break up. They really seemed to be enjoying each other's company. They were
acting silly, dancing on stage, smiling and laughing with each other. I will
remember this experience always!

Was the fake song Dreaming, U-Fig or Tentative? They sound like they'd fake into Attack pretty well.

Sorry guys, I was racking my brain trying to remember which song intro they started to play before they went into Attack, but I really can't. I just remember my boyfriend and I looked at eachother at that moment, thinking at the same time- I can't believe they are gonna play this! They didn't say anything to the audience at that point, Daron moved over to the middle of the stage and said something to the other guys and he was pointing his finger around and then Attack started. I was in complete awe seeing them so close, and I was having so much fun it is hard to remember everything :-)
