Serj Tankian talks about last go-round
Posted by Mikke on Thursday, August 10, 2006 - 10:50 PM

System Of A Down is set to call it quits after Ozzfest 2006 winds down later this month. The band has individual projects lined up for System's "indefinite hiatus," and many fans at the shows couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness.

Vocalist Serj Tankian was gracious enough to invite us (ultimate-guitar.com) on his bus for a joint interview with Bad Acid Trip, who are on his Serjical Strike record label. We asked the singer if there was any sadness for the last go-around of System Of A Down.

"I'm not feeling sad right now. I'm really enjoying this tour. I'm really enjoying hanging out with all these guys. It's honestly been the most fun System tour I've ever been on. That's kind of really appealing to me, and it's gone by pretty quickly. So, I'm excited about the prospects of what else there is down the line, each of the guys with their own stuff, myself... We all need time to do that and when the time comes if we're all comfortable with coming back and doing this together, System will always be there for us."

System Of A Down leaves on top of their game. Not only are they enjoying rave reviews on the fest, they also leave with a Billboard record two Number One debuting albums in one year with Mesmerize and Hypnotize, respectively. Ozzfest ends August 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida.

I`m not downloading this firstly, because this computer`s too slow, and secondly, it`ll make me sad. Even the very first sentence about "Soad ready to call it quits" makes me angry and sad... THEY`RE NOT CALLING IT QUITS!! STOP MAKING ME CRY!!

People don't worry they're not calling it quits. HIATUS does not mean DONE. And plus we'll see Daron with his new band Scars on Broadway and Serj is doing a Serart 2. Shavo will be working with Wu Tang Clan and John is having his own comic book label. We'll read about them and see them with other things.

"When the time comes IF we're all comfortable with coming back and doing this together...." IF? IF? IF???

the thing that bothered was that serj said "if" the guys are ready.....

bwaaaaahhhhh :-( Serj's comments don't sound so positive...at first I kept saying, "yeah, they'll be back, it's just a hiatus"....now after reading this it doesn't seem like they will. It's really sad but it just doesn't seem like a lot of bands stay together for a long time (like the Stones, U2)--even the Beatles didn't last that long and they were of course one of the most influential bands of the rock era. But anyway, I'll go cry in the corner now.

Stop focussing on the negative guys! Does Tool not stay away for years on end, while Maynard goes off to play in APC? And did Queen not disappear for years on end in the early 80's before majestically returning? If it wasn't called out for this to be a hiatus, most of us wouldn't worry half as much.
