Serj to re-release SERART
Posted by ZAk on Friday, April 10, 2009 - 08:24 AM
Serj Tankian will be re-releasing the joint project between him and Armenian awarded musician, Arto Tuncboyaciyan, entitled "Serart" later this month, April 21st.

Originally produced by Serj and Arto, SERART – DELUXE EDITION now includes two previously unreleased remixes by Bill Laswell and Jimmy Urine (Mindless Self Indulgence).

An eclectic array of textured tracks, SERART – DELUXE EDITION mixes Middle Eastern melodies with Pan-African rhythms while shifting from classical motifs to bursts of percussion.

Included with the audio CD, SERART - DELUXE EDITION also features a DVD containing the short film “Sun Angle Calculator”, with music scored by Serj Tankian himself.

In the vibrant opening track, "Cinema," drum and bass beats get comfortable with scat vocals and jazzy interludes.

"Love is the Peace" mixes the sounds of war (guns and bombs) with Arto's haunting voice. The melancholy ballad

"Leave Melody Counting Fear" which mixes acoustic guitar with a Chinese string instrument called a guchin, is a haunting centerpiece of tragic beauty.
You'll find a dance club swirl on "Save the Blonde" and Serj's signature socially conscious spoken word over a tropical rain forest feeling track on "Claustrophobia."

Another highlight track on the album is "Narina" which features the vocals of singer Jenna Ross.

Nothing is predictable as a sense of discovery pervades every element of the album.

Interesting. I'm not all that excited for the unreleased remixes... That might change after I listen to them. I'm really interested in the short film “Sun Angle Calculator,” which may be the reason for me to buy this.

Looks like our boy Serj is running out of money, huh?

It's funny how people accuse other people of being money hungry, and now this?

This album wasn't even good. Only had 2-3 listenable songs in my opinion.

I liked it more than a few System albums, just because this is more of my type of music, but it wasn't as amazing as people make it out to be.

sorry Serj, but it smells like pure money making. On the other hand, I believe it was also decided by the label to rerelease this.

Alright, now this is something I'm looking forward to. The eccentric moods and complex improvisations of this album give us some great music to just chill to, and the remixes have me listening to what they might have to offer.

so basically, nothing new

I didn't get all that into the first one, but it was certainly creative and interesting. Not all interesting, but good. I do like the names “Sun Angle Calculator" and "Save the Blonde", though. I also like the idea of guns and bombs going off in a song, its something I did in my old band in a song called, "Hypno Bot!".
