of a down's Daron Malakian has spoken exclusively to Kerrang! about the band's
forthcoming Release 'Hypnotize', part two of system's promised 2005 two album
set.

prepare for the release 'Hypnotize'
The band's guitarist/singer has revealed that these new songs are among the best
he's ever written, but claims that critical acclaim following "Mezmerize', the
first album of the set, has left him feeling exposed and separated from his band
mates ...
You were very nervous about what people might think of 'Mezmerize'. Are you just as nervous about 'Hypnotize" ?
"No, I was nervous because 'Mezmerize' and 'Hypnotize' were taking system of a down in another direction and, as nobody had heard 'Mezmerize' at that point, i wasn't sure how people would react to me singing more or the sounds in general. 'Mezmerize' broke the ice, so I'm not nervous about how 'Hypnotize' will be received. I'm a lot more confident."
Why the decision to sing more- Are these songs more personal to you?
"A Little of that and I thought my voice would suit the songs more. When someone else is singing about your emotions, it can be tough to get that person to understand the same emotion that you've lived or felt."
People are already calling these 2 albums your masterpieces. Does that make you proud?
"Sometimes it makes me feel alienated from my band, which doesn't feel very good."
Is that because there's a lot more attention on you now?
" It's kind if funny because through the years I've always written the music, the songs and some of the lyrics. But, for years, alot of people thought Serj wrote everything because I wasn't singing. Now the attention has turned to me and it's a little bit weird. It's taken me a little time to get used to it. "
Were you bitter about Serj getting all the attention?
"Sometimes I used to be, but not anymore. I knew that wasn't Serj's fault so I wasn't ever angry with him.
It never really caused any bad relationship between us because how could I blame him?
It's not like he plays up to being a rock star. he's happier for me now because he's always wanted people to know what I do in the band and he's never tried to hide that."
If you had to review this album, what would you say about it?
"I've always explained out music as a rollercoaster ride, up and down. Each song is its own
rollercoaster and, hopefully, you go through a zillion types of excitement and emotions while you're involved in it.
That's how I see System of a Down. But Talking about the songs is not my favorite thing to do because thinking about what I did to make these songs come out isn't necessarily a healthy thing for me. In fact, thinking at all isn't very healthy."
Do you think the songs on 'hypnotize' are the best songs you've ever written?
"yes, alot of them. The same with 'Mezmerize'. I think if people dug that album, then they'll dig 'Hypnotize' - but I don't really think about other people too much and what they think."

awwww..poor daron...i think he needs a good old hug. and i have the hypnotize album and it is really great work. not like their old work. its so different...its almost..creepy..but in a good way! but i still think that daron needs a good old hug....

Aww poor Daron. (yes, sarcasm) Seriously, can't he just go back to writing music and playing guitar? He rocks at that. He sucks at singing and lyric writing. Also, I'm amazed to find some people who, like me, also feel that SOAD (self titled) is their best album. SOAD is so much better than these 2 new albums, and even kicks toxicitys ass. I just hope with their next album system go back to that kinda sound, though I think I may be dissapointed. Ah well, plenty of other bands to listen to. RIP system

People definately take him feeling alienated the completely wrong way. I mean, he put his heart and soul into the project, but whenever someone doesn't like it the reason always comes down to "I don't like Daron's singing" or "Serj needs to lead the band again." Tell me you wouldn't feel alienated.

Daron is a genius!
He's a great, funny,handsome and special man! I've seen System of a Down live, and it was awesome! I think S.O.A.D is the greatest band ever! I really do!
Daron's voice is beautiful, and so is Serj's! I like that Daron is singing more! And anyway, its never "just" Daron's voice we here! Its both of them TOGHETER! Its beautiful!
These guys does something different! I'm a BIG fan of them all! (most Daron) I like all of their albums, and all of their songs. I read that some of you wrote: "Daron is a weird person"...
Whats that supposed to mean?! Its a compliment! Daron is weird, but we are ALL weird! I feel sorry for all of you guys that doesn't "understand" System of a Down. Anyway- they also says that you have to make your own "System of a Down". They are what you want them to be!

"Uncondiditonal love" is a great wayt o put that... To the people saying Serj needs to lead the band again... No one has ever led the band. They all have input to every song! John with his drumming, Daron with his songwriting (And now occassional singing), Serj with his lyrics, and Shavo with his little bit of songwriting and... yeah! So no one leads, not even Daron! :BTW I love how they harmonize in Mezmerize/Hypnotize: :D

just saw that now. Man that's a great interview .. and yeah i agree he does know how to answer questions. I for one always thought of them all equally. Like if Shavo weren't there, the music wouldn't sound the same. If John weren't there then i don't know What would happen to the beat. Serj has the incredible vocals that every band needs and daron writes most of the lyrics and is a hell of a good singer himself.

Awww..........that's so sweet of Daron to not "Attack" Serjie. XD! Ah well.........when I first heard about the band and saw their faces for the first time too, I thought Serj was Daron and Daron was Serj O__o You rock, Daron! And I'm loving you more and more after you revealed your honesteh!
