The end of System of A Down as they know it! |

On a Scale of one to 10, how good was your 2006?
Serj: "I'd give it an eight.", Daron: "Yeah, I'd rate my year as about an eight."
-----------
- If I only had time to ask you one question it would be this: is System of A
Down over?
Serj: "Well, we've decided to take a hiatus in order to work on our own
individual projects.
The schedule involved in being a member of System of A Down is insane. I've
wanted to make my
solo record for years, but I just haven't had the time. For the last 11 years
we've all been wedded
to this band, and now we want to take a break. So I honestly don't know how to
answer your
question. I honestly don't know if System of A Down are over or not. I don't know.
Maybe in a few
years we'll want to make another album. Or maybe we'll want to tour Or maybe
we'll want to play a
benefit show. it's impossible to tell right now. It'll be later down the line
that we'll be able to tell
what might happen."
-----------
- System of a Down fans might not be very encouraged by that answer.
Serj: "That's okay."
-----------
- Not for them, it's not.
Serj: "Well, it's truth. It doesn't have to be happy and it doesn't have to be
sad, it's just the truth.
System of A Down belongs to four people.
its' not a public corporation or a public body. What we do is a matter for our
own personal taste. And
when we do it, it is a matter of our personal taste as well."
-----------
- Was it bad blood that caused this hiatus?
Serj: "I know this might not be the answer Kerrang! wants, but there was no bad
blood at all.
None. This last tour was the best we've ever done. It was the most fun I've had
with the band.
We're four brothers; we're just separated at the moment. But, no, there is
absolutely no bad blood between the members of System of a Down."
-----------
- MTV claimed that during one Ozzfest performance Daron changed the lyrics of
'lonely Day' hanging
out with the band, these motherfuckers I can't stand." true or false?
Daron: " Absolutely false. That story was bullshit.
what I actually sang was 'this motherfucker I cant stand' , meaning 'day'.
That's a long distance
from 'These motherfuckers', meaning my bandmates. which I didn't say. The story's
garbage. It's
untrue. next question."
-----------
- Now that you've hit the pause button, how do you evaluate your
contribution to
rock music?
Daron: "I'm always a poor judge because I'm looking from the inside, but
I would
say that I'm proud
of our achievements. We made it in Los Angeles. We has no connections with the
music business whatsoever. we had no inside track. And from that we accomplished all of this. Our
music has heart
and passion, it has integrity. If you're asking me why people liked our band,
I'd like to think it's
because of that."
-----------
- So now you've got all this time on your hands, what are you going to be up to?
Daron: "Well, I've got season tickets for the (Los Angeles) Kings (ice hockey
team), so I'll certainly
be seeing alot of their games.
I'm also in the early stages of putting a band together. It's too soon to tell
what sort of level it'll
operate at, but given that I wrote 95% of System's music it's probably safe to
say that it will have certain things in common with my other band."
Serj: "I've produced a film called 'Screamer', which is the name given to people
who alert the
world to genocide, whether it be the Armenian genocide or the genocide that's
occurring in Darfur
right as we speak. It's very powerful. I've also co-scored the soundtrack to the
latest ('Exorcist'
director) Willam Friedkin film, which I've wanted to do for years. It'll be rock
music but it'll have outside influences. It's not finished yet, but think of rock music with an
Eastern European classical
bent. I'm very excited about it."
-----------
- It was the midterm Congressional elections a few days ago. Did you vote?
Serj: "I didn't, because due to a clerical mix up I wasn't actually
registered."
Daron: "No, I didn't vote. I've never voted in my life. Not once, why? Because I
don't think it
accomplishes anything. to be honest with you."
----------- - In March 2003 you spoke out against the invasion of Iraq. Do you take any moral
pleasure in the fact
that the calamity you predicted has come true?
Serj: " No, none at all. It's too serious a matter for me to feel that way.
people are dying there
everyday. Its needless and it was totally avoidable."
Daron: "Well, on the hand I've been kind of too preoccupied with the realities
of the situation. I don't know if people know but alot of my family live in Iraq.
So I've spent a lot of time trying to get people out. Some people I've got out
and some people I haven't. Alot of my family dont wish to leave Iraq. Its their home, why should
they surrender it to
come to the United States? To them its a foreign country, an alien place."
"So for me the war is more of a reality than it is for most people. But at the
same time I cant help
feeling, yeah, a certain amount of pride that we stood up there and said what we
did. Lots of
bands are speaking out against the Iraq situation now, but back then there
weren't
so many of them.
We kind of felt on our own up there. A lot of people weren't as courageous as we
were, and I'd be
lying if I said I didn't feel proud about that."
Original title is " Serj & Daron, System of A Down. It's the end of the
band as we know it.

I'm trying to be optimistic about this break, but now after reading that interview I don't really think SOAD will come back. Sorry =/

i agree with serj & daron, soad needs a break, i mean, come on you guys, wouldn't shavo & daron have major blisters from playing bass & guitar for 11 years??? haha, i know i would, but playing bass is my life so... yeah... daron, jebus, if i'd known him like 10 years back, best friends for life, LA KINGS!!! the war is a bunch of bullshit- america is just fighting for pride now and seriously, i'm deeply ashamed & embarrassed for the country i live in right now. if anyone has read UNDERSTANDING OIL by serj, you know what i'm talking about. very good points in that. i seriously want to kick that KERRANG! reporter in the balls; don't you EVER hear rumors about soad & bring them up ANYMORE in your life, none of it is true. no offense to KERRANG! but you need to employ people who will understand musicians, not just people trying to squeeze information out of anyone they can to get hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. serj wasn't blunt, he was just honest. if you read this whole paragraph, seriously man, get a life.

It wasnt a Rumor, MTV reported something, and the Kerrang reporter asked them if its true or false. the MTV news item been seen by millions of people, on their official website, and guess what? fans been to that concert too and reported the same incident, but it was matter of misunderstanding as people thought Daron meant Serj not the 'lonely day'.

To think about the whole thing, honestly brings tears to my eyes. I'm upset that Mr. Serj would say something like that...SugarCult made the comment that System would be nothing without the fans. I agree completely. Honest or not, it was a cold thing to say. I'm not so sure I believe what Mr. Daron said. It sounds like a cover-up to me. Like he got too emotional on stage one day and said something he shouldn't have, and now after getting shit from the band, he doesn't want to make the conflict public. I'm so torn...I don't know what to think anymore. ::sigh:: Still hoping for the best though...

Okay, I am speechless. Some of these comments indicate a goodbye forever. We should eventually see the truth. I think this was it with SOAD and they won't come back. However, I agree that it's a thing between them but I can't deny that I feel as if someone had taken away a part of me.

Hey, what I forgot to say is that all these comments by Serj and Daron absolutely contradict with all the interviews with John. I mean, he was talking about a 2-year hiatus and nothing else. I really don't know anything anymore.

You know what? Now I am crying. That's just another end in my life. Another goodbye... Seems as if there was only shit at the moment, I mean, another year of my life is almost over, SOAD won't come back and I feel so empty, forsaken and I can't believe what's happening...

I totally agree with Zak, SERJ HURT MY FEELINGS! I mean, Im a true SOADfan and he's telling me "too bad so sad we're leaving we don't what we want bitch"-- well thats how it feels. He doesn't have to be so mean about it. I know he can do what he wants but.... :(

I can understand how some of you feel hurt by what Serj said but, I look at it from the same angle as these actors that decide to take a temporary of permanent leave from a show or their career to be a parent. Their fans do not realise that they are people, too and have to have their lives as they dictate. Serj, Daron, John and Shavo are actually people with needs and they cannot eat, sleep and breathe SOAD. They need to be able to do more and seek out some of their other goals, as well. They also need to take time out for their personal lives. Their schedule with the band IS insane and, perhaps they might actually like to spend some quality time with their families or get married and start a family of their own. Let's just be supportive and happy for them and, at the same time, grateful to them for the gift they have given us...their time and their music.

Wow..you guys need to actually read the entire thing. He said it is a POSSIBILITY that they might break up. I highly doubt they are breaking up, and i totally agree with them for taking a long break. They aren't robots, they can't do everything..

Well I think that many people go to work every day (can you believie !) works 8 hours a day and still manage to have family (odd people I know). They at least should have try to continue someting such beautiful like SOAD

Hey everyone. Me again... Okay, I was so upset the whole day and a friend of mine told me something I think is very true: SOAD have created a piece of music history and this will remain so forever, no matter if they ever come back or not. We will always enjoy and appreciate this. They are great artists and no matter what they do, they shall enjoy it and give their best as they always do. I will try not to be too upset anymore because I know that they are four individuals with individual dreams and plans, which is natural. "Everything comes to an end one day and we're nothing but a bunch of memories for each other. But the good thing is: memories keep us together for all times..."
