It
was April the 11th 2008, at the Whisky A GO GO, a nightclub located in L.A where
history begin System of a Down fans in general, and Daron Malakian fanatics in
particular were impatiently waiting to hear the new tunes from the new formed
band SCARS ON BROADWAY with Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan on the drums.
Secret show that night, was not a secret anymore, SOADFans were there
witnessing every minute of the new born band, with words, photos and even
videos, we got you the first review ever of the very first SCARS live show!
I found out about the show about a week and a half before everyone else did.
As soon as I did, I went and bought my ticket. I told all my friends about it,
but only 3 of them believed me to the point where they bought a ticket. So all
week, I was very impatient, couldn't focus in school, and was ready to see John
and Daron for the first time live since SOAD. On the day of the show, two of my
friends and headed out to the Whisky at around 6:30P.M. We got there around 7,
picked up our tickets, ate, and went in. We stood through 4 bands that were ok
at best. The only good thing about that was that we saw Vartan Malakian
and I talked to Sevag Tankian.
So the last band before SCARS finished, and it seemed like the place filled up
so fast. After about 20 minutes of sound checks and all that, the lights dimmed
and everyone started cheering. The bassist and guitarist came out first,
followed by John Dolmayan! Then after about another minute, Daron
came out and they started rocking out! We couldn't tell what Daron was looking
at for the first few songs of the set, but then his glasses fell off. Every 30
seconds or so, he would look our way and everyone, especially me, was going
crazy.
One of the many highlights from this night is when they played "We're On
Drugs." It took me back to Reading and Lowlands 2001 when SOAD started their
shows with that. A little bit after the halfway point of the set, Daron jumped
into the crowd! I pushed through like 5 people like my life was on the line and
grabbed his left leg for 10 seconds. When security started pulling him back onto
stage, I grabbed his arm and gave him a pat on the back! That was amazing. At
this point, my friend got his camera taken away, which is why we couldn't get as
many pics or vids as we could have gotten. They finished their awesome set with
"They Say," and this song was so much better live. It's a perfect song for a
show, and I've never gone as crazy as I did during this song.
Right after "They Say," we were trying to get one of Daron's picks, but we
weren't able to. Then, John came to our side and started throwing sticks. He
looked right behind me and tossed one up in the air, and I jumped higher than
I've ever jumped before and snatched that stick out of the air. When I came
down, someone else had their hands on the stick. I pulled as hard as I could,
got control of it, and walked out of the venue. My friend came up behind me and
said, "Dude! You were fighting with me for the stick!" I said he could've been
anyone in the world, I was going to grab that stick. So after a great show, I
came out of it with my idol's stick! My friend went and got his camera back, and
we left.
Overall, I had an amazing time, it was so much fun. The music was great, I can't
wait for the album! Witnessing the first ever Scars On Broadway show will be a
great memory for a long time to come.
HOLYFUCKINGSHIT I just got home with my friend. To put it simply the concert
was a-fucking-mazing.
So we swung around the Whisky at about 6:30. Thankfully there were still
tickets. After that we found out scars started at about 10 we chilled at my
friend's house till about 8.
Then we came in the middle of one of the other bands at around 8:30. They were
very death metal punkish. Same with the following 3 bands. Finally it was Scars
turn to go on stage.
There was a longass wait for scars to come on stage. To keep us entertained one
of the roadies (I assume) came and played the melody for they say. Also another
interesting thing is that they never publically said Scars's name. They just
said "Special guest" or "you know who." They announced all the other bands.
So finally after 'dying from anticipation' there was a loud crowd roar, and down
came Daron (looks like he gained a little weight), John, and 3 other guys! The
other guys took up bass, keyboard, and another guitar/backup vocals (like Serj
has.)
They
started off with a fast paced beat, and there was their first song. The crowd
went fucking nuts, and I was too busy head banging and going crazy to remember
many of the lyrics. "If we gonna live forever how we gonna kill each other. If
we gonna kill each how we gonna live forever."
The second song was a more mellow song, and had this fucking amazing beat that
reminded me of streamline. "Supercalafragalisticespecialidousious" <---I kid you
not first lyric in song.
During the middle of the song there was a brief pause, and Daron sang "Drugs"
solo from the old system of a down shows!!!
The third song had a bunch of pauses, and epic words without music then music
coming in. It was about cocks, and whores XD.
The fourth and fifth song were both heavy metal, and I was just absorbing the
music. Sorry don't remember the lyrics all I know is that one of them has a sort
of 'euro-beat.'
The middle of the concert someone asked me what I thought of them. I immediately
said "almost as good as system." He said "I think they're better."
There was one song that was in instrumental, until the end where there's like 10
words.
After that they played another few songs (lost track,) and each one was getting
better and better. I kinda lost track of myself halfway through if you guys
notice by my descriptions getting vaguer.
Anyway after that their very last song was they say. It sounds so badass live.
The whole crowd was singing along with them! Daron said "I watch the president"
and the crowd finished "kiss his family."
Pure epicness all the way, and the final guitar note was going on for like 5
mins while they said goodbye, and Daron hugged all the members of his band. John
looks unchanged, but was using a diff drum set.
After all the scars members left the stage you could hear the crowd chanting
"ONE MORE SCARS SONG," "ONE MORE SCARS SONG."
But then another band came, and I left.
Along with 99% of the crowd.
On the way out I got a sticker for SOB, and on the back there's a bunch of
newspapers clippings and it says "the debut album coming this summer"
i wish the videos were a lot better to aswell, cuz u can't even hear daron sing at all, cuz the person was to cloes to the ampes, but the vidoe r awsome though, lol, it is good to see daron on stage again, lol, but i still have to say he still does look like jesus though, lol, my bad, lol
I don't know... I don't know what's the big thing going to a concert where are so many people that are pushing me, fighting for sticks that John Dolmayan is throwing... I more like practicing my drums, playing They Say on them...
