<P dir=ltr style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px">Right in the middle of recording the new double album, Hypnotize/Mesmerize, Serj Tankian is sounding tired after a particularly long and grueling session in the studio. It’s a gentle voice that greets me from the other end of the line, softly spoken, thoughtful and occasionally aloof.
According to an Interview to the australian Beat magazine :
“Man, I’m tired. We’re all working really hard to finish this album. I’ve been working on it all day and it’s 1:30 in the morning here. I’m afraid we’re not going to have it ready (for the Australian tour), but we are probably going to release the first part, Hypnotize in March and then the second part, Mesmerize, will come six months after that." |

SOADFans: Daron is uncomfortable With Being Tagged A 'Political' Band
|

SYSTEM OF A DOWN guitarist and chief songwriter Daron Malakian has told The Sydney Morning Herald that he is putting the finishing touches on two new studio albums — "Mesmerize", due this spring, and "Hypnotize", due this fall. He said he's not a perfectionist: "I just want it to be right, I don't nitpick at shit. I get the production credit on the record, and I get to be the [AC/DC guitarist] Malcolm Young of System of a Down." "I respect those people. You look at SLAYER and you see Kerry King. I look at SLAYER and I see [songwriter-guitarist] Jeff Hanneman." By his own reckoning, Malakian writes about 95% of SOAD's music, including the lyrics. He bristles slightly at the suggestion that his band is a dictatorship. |

System of a Down plans to spend the next couple years on the road. Their first stop is Aukland on January 21st, where they will kick off a six-day stint at New Zealand and Australia's annual traveling festival, Big Day Out.
"We're going out and doing as many shows as we can" says guitarist Daron Malakian, reclining on a couch in the Southern California studio where the band is mixing the records with Andy Wallace (Rick Rubin produced the sessions).
"It'll be constant touring for two years" he explains. "Right now, I'm most excited about being with the band onstage, and being behind a guitar"
