The 2005 Kerrang Awards nominations have been announced at this year's Day Of Rock. In the middle of sets by Bullet For My Valentine, InMe, Nine Black Alps, Towers Of London and The Mascara Story,
Kerrang! editor Paul Brannigan named Green Day and System Of A Down as leaders of the pack, with five nominations apiece.
Coming a close second were My Chemical Romance with four nominations, including Best Band. The winners will be announced at the Kerrang! Awards o­n August 25 - to vote for your favourites, head for www.kerrangawards.com

System of a Down's music reflects the times we live in ... and if that includes politics, so be it;
When is a politically and socially charged rock band not a politically and socially charged rock band?

The members of System of a Down create hard-hitting music that inspires thought as well as moshing. "When you want your music to be timeless, you have to make your topics more broad," says singer Serj Tankian.

That's the conundrum facing System of a Down, who combine nu-metal ferocity and prog-rock complexity with elements of punk, goth, Armenian music and more. The uncompromising band has always followed its muse, creating charged songs that skewer a
variety of timely targets with fire and finesse.

Some of the group's most memorable numbers take aim at greed, poverty, racism and decaying public morality. Other songs decry government corruption, corporate brainwashing, blind consumerism and the current American administration.

As they did o­n their fan club tour this past spring and their recent European run, System of a Down are playing a couple of tracks from the Hypnotize album, which has yet to be released. And guitarist Daron Malakian said that he is aware that fans exchange live bootlegs via the net:

"It's funny because it's completely off live shows that we've played that have probably gotten o­n the Internet. So when we play the shows now and we play some of the songs that aren't released yet, some of the kids are already singing along to 'em from what they've heard o­n the Internet."

The exact release date for Hypnotize hasn't been announced yet, although it's due out this autumn. The band's current album, Mezmerize, has sold 1.2 million copies since its May 17th release.

The video for System Of A Down's new single, "Question!," will premiere o­n SystemOfADown.com o­n Friday, August 5th. The clip, which was co-directed by System bassist Shavo Odadjian and Howard Greenhalgh, was written by Odadjian and based o­n a dream he had.

Famed producer Rick Rubin, the man responsible for signing the now über-successful System of a Down, recently told the L.A. Times that SOAD guitarist/songwriter/vocalist/mastermind Daron Malakian is "a true artist." Malakian, said Rubin, "doesn't really live in the world. He lives in a bubble and the bubble is filled with music. All he does is listen to music and play music all day every day."
"I don't know about the true artist part," Malakian tells New Times from his Glendale, California, home, "but the way he explained the way I live was pretty right o­n."
