SOADFans: Lyon, France Concert Review

System of a Down played Halle Tony Garnier concert at Lyon. France yesterday
*tamara* reports : The Mezmerize painting was watching the crowd from the black curtain hiding the stage. And then it began : 'Soldier Side' and Daron’s shadow singing behind the curtain… until it fell down and they really kicked off the show with 'BYOB', which drove the crowd insane…
so much that after the first minute of the song the barriers protecting the stage broke down under the people’s pressure. So SOAD had to stop the show, Serj asked everyone to step back, and Daron tried to calm down the audience with a mellow love song, "Lemon Song" by Led Zeppelin, but he replaced once the words « I will always be loving you » by « I will always be fucking you »… so daron-ish :)
SOAD had to leave the stage, but they came back ten minutes later and resumed 'BYOB' exactly where they had stopped it, which was powerful.
During the first half of the show, Daron and Serj were very calm, not moving much. Shavo was the only one walking on the stage from side to side, headbanging. He looked delighted and was smiling to people. The whole band got wilder after a while, the best parts were probably Toxicity (Daron mimed « eating seeds as a pastime activity » in such a way that he looked like he was eating something else… I will never forget his face), '
'War ?' with a great interlude and 'Sugar' of course !!!! Daron had the same haircut as on the Burbank pics. So, sorry guys, no mohawk cut. Sadly, there was no encore, which disappointed the crowd a bit. But the show was really awesome. The sound wasn’t perfect, but the setlist was really great (same one as the previous shows) and the way they went through it with only small breaks made the gig intense. Unforgettable !
The Setlist as (no order) :
-Suite-pee -Sugar + Robotic Intro -Suggestions -Spiders -War? -Prison Song -Needles -Deer Dance -Jet Pilot -Chop Suey -Bounce -Forest -ATWA -Science -Toxicity -Psycho -Aerials -Mr. Jack -Roulette -Soldier Side -BYOB -Revenga -Cigaro -Question! -Lost in Hollywood -Kill Rock'n Roll

System of a Down continue their European tour with 'Fillaforum' Concert in Milan, Italy. According to many sources the show was great, the band member looked a bit 'calmed' than usual but the performance was great in general.
John shaved his hair at ZERO ! Daron with his new hair cut and the famous hat on and shavo was the most active one (moving around on the stage).
The Setlist was almost the same as Spain and Portugal concerts, 27 song in total played in 90 mins. They kickedoff with 'Soldier Side' and closed with 'Toxicity', the setlist was (in no order) :
-Suite-pee -Sugar + Robotic Intro -Suggestions -Spiders -War? -Prison Song -Needles -Deer Dance -Jet Pilot -Chop Suey -Bounce -Forest -ATWA -Science -Toxicity -Psycho -Aerials -Mr. Jack -Roulette -Soldier Side -BYOB -Revenga -Cigaro -Question! -Lost in Hollywood -Kill Rock'n Roll -Holy Mountain

The former lead singer of System of a Down shares his feelings of hope, inspiration and utter dejection about our current state of affairs. When
Serj Tankian takes on political and social issues on his new solo album,
Elect the Dead, he doesn't mince words. In the most political song on the
album, "The Unthinking Majority," he writes about a hypocritical warmongering
government running a society controlled by antidepressants (in 2006, over 227
million antidepressant prescriptions were dispensed in the United States.): |

SOADFans: System of a Down aims to lose political shackles

NEW YORK – System of a Down wants you to know they are not a political band !! Yes, they came out against the war in Iraq. And yes, they hand-picked ultraliberal gadfly Michael Moore to direct their 2003 protest video, “Boom!” And yes, their latest single, the frenetic, guitar-crunching “B.Y.O.B.,” contains angry rants like “Why don’t presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor?” But still, Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian – one-half of the eclectic metal quartet – fiercely resist when people try to define them as the band with the left-leaning agenda. “The fact that journalists have so made us into a political band, it’s forcing us to be apolitical in some ways as a reaction to it,” says Tankian, who on this day is the antithesis of his wild-man stage persona – soft-spoken and drinking herbal tea to soothe a sore throat |

Since when did nu-metal groups talk about 'infinite harmonies', 'imperialist realpolitik' and 'corporate enslavement'? Adam Sweeting meets System of a Down - the band big on brains as well as album sales 'The fact that we're all Armenian and in the same band is completely a coincidence' ... System of a Down
With his benign smile, tumbling ringlets and air of spiritual calm, Serj Tankian could pass for a New Age healer. His bandmate Daron Malakian is no less relaxed, content simply to light up another bong full of aromatic weed and shoot the breeze. You'd never guess the pair were frontmen for the Armenian-American heavy metal group System of a Down, with a repertoire of cranium-smashing tracks called things like BYOB (Bring Your Own Bomb) |
