Call Of The Wild

With the release of his first solo album, Elect The Dead, System Of A Down
frontman Serj Tankian contemplates a return to nature.
To get to Serj Tankian's house, you have to take a long, winding, and
occasionally very narrow road that snakes through the verdant hills of
Calabasas, California. It's a beautiful and peaceful place, with bushy threes
and rolling canyons as far as the eye can see, and it seems a world away from
the toxic sprawl of nearby Los Angeles. But like so many once-remote areas of
Southern California, Tankian's secluded neighborhood is beginning to feel the
fetid breath of encroaching development on the back of its neck. Nearly three
years ago, when Revolver came up here to interview him about System of a Down's
sister albums, Mesmerize and Hypnotize, the area seemed to be home to the more
horses than humans; this time, as our car makes its way past one new building
site after another, it's apparent that Tankian will soon have more company up
here than he'd probably prefer. |

System Of A Down's Serj Tankian Hopes Second Solo LP Doesn't Rock

Serj
is shooting for jazzier, 'more orchestral' sounds; also reveals 'FCC' backing
band, talks Wyclef Jean collaboration.
It's six days until Serj Tankian's inaugural solo debut, Elect the Dead,
hits record stores, and yet, the wild-eyed System of a Down frontman is already
mulling his next album and the direction he wants to take with it. In fact, the
dude's stockpiled about 4,500 songs he's written over the last few years from
which to mine.
"They're not all like [the songs on Elect the Dead]," he said. "They're not all
rock or pop or anything like that. I've got classical music, electronic
compositions, experimental songs, noise, punk, metal — I have a lot of different
types of music because when I have free time, I write music, regardless of what
project I'm working on at the time. I will always have more material than I can
afford to release." |

The Flying Cunts of Chicago
|
 |
| Posted by SOAGolfeR21 on Sunday, October 14, 2007 - 09:45 PM |
A
cold, overcast day in the Chicago area. After finding a kickass parking spot a
block away from the Vic Theatre, at 4:45 PM on October 12, 2007, the nerves
kicked in. I was going to see Serj Tankian, the voice of System of a Down.
Me and my girlfriend ran to the short line forming outside the venue. I’d
estimate it was around 25 people long. Serj propaganda, in the form of posters,
lined the walls outside of The Vic. It was around 50 degrees Fahrenheit, so we
were a bit chilly, as was the rest of the crowd. Waiting in line, a beige tour
bus was parked across the street with a permit on the windshield, reading “Serj
Tankian, October 12.” As we waited, we could hear a faint pounding sound coming
from an alleyway, this pounding was oh-so-rhythmic and oh-so-familiar. In fact,
it was the FCC (Flying Cunts of Chaos) practicing “The Unthinking Majority”.
Although it’s a bad pun, we really were….dying of anticipation. |

A new digital community offers independent and unsigned bands a revolutionary
promotional platform to showcase their talents. urSession.com, gives musicians
from all over the world an opportunity to build an audience in hopes of landing
a record deal. VOA's Behnam Nateghi recently spoke to the site's founder about
this unique Internet portal. Carla Coolman narrates.
The days of aspiring bands performing in relative obscurity waiting to be
"discovered" may be a thing of the past thanks to the Internet. Through
Internet-based platforms, bands can now share their passion for music with a
global audience.
Shavo Odadjian is the bassist with the American band "System of a Down".
Formed in 1995 in Los Angeles, in the western state of California, the band is
now on hiatus. But Odadjian is staying busy with other musical projects. |

A little inside scoop from Greg Watermann and Isaac Flores
|
 |
| Posted by poisonedangel7 on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 - 11:42 AM |
I had a chance to ask Greg Waterman, director of the
“Praise The Lord, Pass the Ammunition” video and Isaac
(Eye-Sack) Flores a photographer that attended the video shoot a few questions.
Greg was given this video to direct
as Serj thinks it is the most insane unlike the talented Mr. Watermann. Of
course I am kidding, here are the responses from two very talented
individuals…….. |
