General Band News

What are the facts? Last August, in an interview with Asbarez newspaper, SOAD’s lead singer Serj Tankian said that a Finnish journalist had asked him if he would be interested in participating in "a song competition" which would raise "awareness about the Armenian Genocide."  Tankian told the reporter that it was "an interesting idea." When the reporter asked if he would be interested in participating in such a song contest, Tankian said, "Maybe, yeah."
Soon after the Finnish interview, Tankian said he was inundated with media reports that he was "going to take System of A Down to do this Eurovision thing." He told Asbarez: "It was all a misinterpretation and a misunderstanding to a point where I had to actually call my label reps [representatives] in Finland and asked them to please tell the journalist to retract

So it was the Big Day Out yesterday and it was awesome, Serj wasn't on until 6pm and we got there at 11am so we were just killing time by watching bands, some of the highlights were Bullet For My Vallentine, Pendulum, The Arctic Monkeys, The Living End and of course Serj.

We got to the front row centre stage at about 4:45pm and had to sit through local band 'The Datsuns' for an hour. In between songs chants of "Serj, Serj, Serj" were getting louder and louder.

So far, what has been the best day of your life?
"Being on magic mushrooms at a [legendary jam band] Grateful dead concert. It was just the most blissfully happy feeling I've ever experienced. This was about a year or two before [frontman] Jerry Garcia, and the show was at the LA sports Arena. I had taken mushrooms before, but that was at a NIN concert, which was a completely different vibe, But when the Grateful Dead were playing, it was like being abroad on a spaceship, and every time they started a song the spaceship lifted off and we were being transported through space. it was just fantastic."

If you were governor of California, how would you improve the lives of your fellow citizens?
"I hate coming off like big pot head, but I would definitely move for more lenient laws on pot. The jails in California are pretty full, so I would figure out a way of getting some people out there, people who aren't a danger to society.
