Scars On Broadway: Taking A Step Away From System
Scars on Broadway News
Posted by sugar_buzz on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 - 06:09 AM

Scars On Broadway, which is a side project started by System of a Down's lead guitarist and musical mastermind Daron Malakian, is nearing completion of their debut album, which is slated for a 2008 release. Malakian who started Scars on Broadway a few years back, has since recruited fellow System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan for the project that has been gaining steam since System of a Down's hiatus, which will last at least a few years. With the world wide success of System of a Down affording the band members the luxury of taking some time away to concentrate on other projects, Malakian and Dolmayan have joined forces with a few old friends, along with producer Rick Rubin to record the Scars on Broadway album, which takes a step away from the direction of System of a Down.

Serj Tankian Review, London, 18th November

The image “http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v187/antivinniemac/Serj1.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.Well, what can I say. I night to remember, surprisingly not because of the Foos.

It started off entering the venue an around 2.30pm, to get merch, look round and most importantly get to the front for Serj Tankian. This being my first time seeing any member of System, being an absolutely massive fan (in a very short period of time), I had to be at the front.

The venue is fantastic, lots of stuff to do- shops, cinema, restaurant, ice rink, other concert halls. Really fantastic staff and a fucking huge arena. Unfortunately there is nothing to do when you are queing for the standing section but stare ahead at the playstation 3 demo area.

John Dolmayan 3 Pt Vid Interview about the Launch of Torpedo Comics
General Band News
Posted by AK on Monday, November 12, 2007 - 07:17 AM

With multi-Platinum rock band System of a Down currently on a hiatus that might last for several years, drummer John Dolmayan finally has a little time to devote to his other passion, comic books and collectibles. Dolmayan, who currently lives in Las Vegas, Nevada has officially launched his next endeavor, Torpedo Comics which already features over 15 million comic books, toys, graphic novels, trade paperbacks, superhero action figures and other comic book-related memorabilia, ranging in price from 99-cents to six-figures.

We caught up with John recently, who is also in the recording process of his next musical project with fellow System of a Down member Daron Malakian which is called Scars on Broadway, to get his thoughts on finally launching Torpedo Comics and having a knack for comic book collecting.

Call Of The Wild
Interviews

With the release of his first solo album, Elect The Dead, System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian contemplates a return to nature.

To get to Serj Tankian's house, you have to take a long, winding, and occasionally very narrow road that snakes through the verdant hills of Calabasas, California. It's a beautiful and peaceful place, with bushy threes and rolling canyons as far as the eye can see, and it seems a world away from the toxic sprawl of nearby Los Angeles. But like so many once-remote areas of Southern California, Tankian's secluded neighborhood is beginning to feel the fetid breath of encroaching development on the back of its neck. Nearly three years ago, when Revolver came up here to interview him about System of a Down's sister albums, Mesmerize and Hypnotize, the area seemed to be home to the more horses than humans; this time, as our car makes its way past one new building site after another, it's apparent that Tankian will soon have more company up here than he'd probably prefer.

System Of A Down's Serj Tankian Hopes Second Solo LP Doesn't Rock
Serj Tankian News

Serj TankianSerj is shooting for jazzier, 'more orchestral' sounds; also reveals 'FCC' backing band, talks Wyclef Jean collaboration.

It's six days until Serj Tankian's inaugural solo debut, Elect the Dead, hits record stores, and yet, the wild-eyed System of a Down frontman is already mulling his next album and the direction he wants to take with it. In fact, the dude's stockpiled about 4,500 songs he's written over the last few years from which to mine.

"They're not all like [the songs on Elect the Dead]," he said. "They're not all rock or pop or anything like that. I've got classical music, electronic compositions, experimental songs, noise, punk, metal — I have a lot of different types of music because when I have free time, I write music, regardless of what project I'm working on at the time. I will always have more material than I can afford to release."

The Flying Cunts of Chicago
Serj Tankian News
Posted by SOAGolfeR21 on Sunday, October 14, 2007 - 09:45 PM

A cold, overcast day in the Chicago area. After finding a kickass parking spot a block away from the Vic Theatre, at 4:45 PM on October 12, 2007, the nerves kicked in. I was going to see Serj Tankian, the voice of System of a Down. Me and my girlfriend ran to the short line forming outside the venue. I’d estimate it was around 25 people long. Serj propaganda, in the form of posters, lined the walls outside of The Vic. It was around 50 degrees Fahrenheit, so we were a bit chilly, as was the rest of the crowd. Waiting in line, a beige tour bus was parked across the street with a permit on the windshield, reading “Serj Tankian, October 12.” As we waited, we could hear a faint pounding sound coming from an alleyway, this pounding was oh-so-rhythmic and oh-so-familiar. In fact, it was the FCC (Flying Cunts of Chaos) practicing “The Unthinking Majority”. Although it’s a bad pun, we really were….dying of anticipation.
