The festival was great, and I made sure to watch every band on the bill
because I paid 45 bucks to see multiple bands and I was going to see them. Some
good bands on the bill were Strapping Young Lad, Bad Acid Trip, Atreyu (it was a
surprise for me), Full Blown Chaos, Hatebreed and System of a down.
Since this is a System site I will mainly only talk about System. But I must
say this night god answered one of my wishes. I was really pissed that I was
going to have to sit through A7X but the powers that be stopped that. There was
a rolling black out and it took them an hour to fix it so all in all I only had
to listen to 4 of their crappy songs.
But now lets talk about system. Daron came out all alone singing soldier side
perfectly.
Then it was 'Attack', 'BYOB', 'Revenga' and pretty much noting too cool like 'Cubert'
or 'Darts'. Pretty much the same set list.
Daron of course said some really funny shit through the show like when he
started the intro to 'Cigaro' he said "This is a song written by Dick Chaney."
Then he did the mind speech people are talking about and it was hard to
remember
but it was very cool and true.
Then on 'Lonely Day' he said "such a lonely day
with the band, I love these guys up here" I think he said that so people can put
to rest the whole breaking up thing. All of System's family attended the show and
Daron gave them all a shout out. And it was his cousins birthday and Daron told
him happy birthday.
Then he said "I have a lot of family in Iraq and I know you guys do too so this
one goes out to them," then they played 'Lost in Hollywood'. That's all I can
remember because during the black out they encouraged us to light up a joint and
drink a beer and lets just say most of up did just that.

Phoenix, AZ Show - July 7, 2006 Review

Just got home.. my ears are still ringing.. and my head is killing me..SOAD was
really awesome live.. yep they played all those songs from the other shows, it
was really cool when they played "the sultan" or as they called it "we are the
system of a down" instead of the actual lyrics.I was in reserved seats in the middle section, so
I wasn't able to have any interaction with them onstage, but it was still really cool..
During one of the songs Daron just stopped playing and they all stopped playing as well and he said to the security guards that a fight was going on in the pit and that they refuse to play while people are fighting.. so that was cool.. and he said some other random things too about fighting and war and losing our minds and having to take our minds back etc etc, honestly
I cant remember what all he talked about.. I was just so in awe that I was seeing them live.. |

4th of July is the best day ever to see a System of a Down concert. Not that I would know, I just know it was totally kickass. I’m not remembering the song order, but I remember all the events that happened that night.
The SOAD portion of Ozzfest started at 9:15 (it was supposed to start at 9:00! They kept me waiting for 15 minutes of pure torture!!) and was all over at about 11. |

System of a Down started to play around 9:30 and finished before 11:00 I m
not sure about the order but I think i got every song there so, it felt like a
short show. They started off with:
Soldier Side- Daron walks in with his sweet hat and just plays it..
Attack- was played perfectly and Daron as usual at the end goes crazy and looses
his hat ;P
B.Y.O.B- that's a song that got people move little bit system played energetic
and perfectly
Revanga- this song just sounds so much different live I think that was one of
best played it sounded much more heavier
Suggestion- Daron spits all over the place and they seemed like some old system
right there
Needles- Daron takes of his coat and pulls a tapeworm out of his ass..it was fun
Dear Dance- Daron jumps in the crowd again but he almost got hurt badly. there
was that one fagot that just pushed him off and he almost fell on the ground.
Thanks to security guard that caught him coz he would been badly hurt \m/ Daron
said five words after, he let everyone know that there is the kid and he's bad
and see him after concert or something like that
War?- Daron puts his hat back on and I think he just wanted to get backs
together after the jump. there is that moment stuck in my head from this song
when Daron was yelling 'destroy' like a freak to microphone with the robotic
voice and it was another great song Smile
Psycho - another crazy song but the solo at the end had like electronic thing
going on in the end it was very long and it was something new
Cigaro- Daron sings the intro as always to it and the song sounded just like
on the record..
Sad Statue- before this song, Daron had some weird solo
HYPNOTIZE- I loved it it because Daron played the song with echo
distortion in heavy parts and it sounded bad ass !!!!
Old School Hollywood- I dunno what to say about it :] it was a different song
from other and i think it was really cool but this song still kicked ass.
QUESTION- before the song Daron said "I think that the most important
think in life is question..and question..and question..and question.... ".and
someone yelled at Daron that he fuckin sucks and something like that and I
yelled at Daron and said Daron I agree with you bro and that guy can go fuck
himself and Daron smiled at me and they played question.

It was an excellent show. It was the best show I have ever seen. I went
bonkers dancing to it the whole time. Last night was magical. What is good about
System is that they talk about thing and play with the crowd.
Serj
talked about civilization and how it started where modern Iraq is, between the
Tigris and the Euphrates rivers. And Daron was just himself. He and Serj talked
about how we have plenty of oil and that we don't need civilization and it's
walls. 'We need
each other' It was great.
Shavo danced around like always, and did a bass trick.
John was spot on, too. He's so energetic. The sound balance was the best all
day. Disturbed was good too. System made the heavy parts accurate and not sound
like noise like most of the other bands. System made the clean parts sound good
too and not forced. It was great and the pot smell was everywhere.
They played:
Soldier Side Intro
Attack
B.Y.O.B.
Revenga

Needles
Deer Dance
War? (w/ Robotic Interlude)
Psycho

Ozzfest vets System of a Down, who'll be going on an indefinite hiatus following Ozzfest, arrived Wednesday on separate buses. They were the show's most distracting performers — or maybe the most distracted.
At first, through the opening track "Soldier's Song" and the next four that followed — including "B.Y.O.B." — guitarist Daron Malakian seemed to be struggling to keep up with the rest of the band and improvising lyrics when it was his turn to bark into the microphone. None of that mattered to the rabid crowd, though, which leaped, bounced and clawed its way through the pit.
During "B.Y.O.B.," Malakian rethought the lyric, "We don't live in a fascist nation," by quickly muttering, "Yes, we do." Some fans, well aware of the band's post-Ozzfest plans, raised an eyebrow or two when, during "Lonely Day," Malakian turned and looked at frontman Serj Tankian as he sang, "Such a lonely day, hanging out with the band/ This mother----er, I can't stand."
System appeared bored at the beginning of the set, but by the end, they worked the crowd into an abusive mob of fist-pumping fanatics with "Sugar" and other songs. Tankian danced around goofily with his eyes closed through "Hypnotize" while Malakian mounted his guitar.
