SOB Songs Meanings - "They Say" Lyrics

LYRICS (transcribed by me. I haven't checked them over yet, so there may be some errors.)
---
They Say
Scars on Broadway
---
I walk the line, the line I choose
I see the people in front of me.
I climb the wall, the wall of news
I watch them show the tragedy.
If you were me, could you defend
The given rights to all of man.
Let's fuck the world with all its trend
They say it's all about to end.
They say it's all about to end.
They say. They say.
There's a prison that's gone but the fear lives on
I watch you walking on the dotted line.
Maybe you don't see what's in front of me.
Maybe you won't stand the test of time.
For we live in sin, for we will win
I watch the president kiss his family.
For we live in sin, for we will win
I watch the president fuck society.
If you were me, could you defend
The given rights to all of man.
Let's fuck the world with all its trend
They say it's all about to end.
They say it's all about to end.
They say. They say.
I fall in love with the old times.
I never mentioned my old mind.
Let's fuck the world with all its trend.
Thank God, it's all about to end.
They say it's all about to end.
They say. They say.
They say. They say.
They say it's all about to end.

ok this is why i love daron. this song is so clearly about something! (abu ghraib, end of bush presidency.) serj disappointed me by being so oblique -- i know he stands for many things, but lyrically he's very coy.
go daron!
(the headbanger icon is in time with the song!
)
(and thanks for transcribing the lyrics, redsox -- great job!)

Amazing. This is exactly what I wanted and expected from Daron. His voice sounds really close to his "old" voice (Toxicity era) but retains his Hyp/Mez tone as well

lol dude cromans ur right, the icon is in sync with the song!!! this song is fucking awesome, i think im actually gonna like sob better then serj tankian based off of wut iv heard from them both so far, but serj still fuckin rocks

Serj is supposed to be at Coachella..
I think its a little crazy.
Yes I would say this is pretty on.
And something that I have been mulling around in my brain and did discuss with a friend.
Its about the lines:
" I fall in love with the old times.
I never mentioned my old mind. "
Like a hopeful SOAD fan I think he could be referring to System.
Its still early and these are just someones transcription of the lyrics but..
I was thinking that with the first line hes talking about how he loves all the time that they spent together and all that they did.
And for the second, now that there not together he doesn't talk about it anymore?
Anyway this is just silliness from me.. But I had to say it.
XSider1 - Mar 29, 2008 - 06:57 AM
Post subject:
^^ I've been thinking of that, too. So if it's about System, I think maybe he referrs to the old times where he couldn't really show himself... but I don't know 'cause he could..

It sounds like he's dissing SOAD because he never got to speak his mind.
If so, fuck you Daron.

Because you get so little time to speak your mind when you're doign the writing.
I don't think he'd diss SOAD. It doesn't make sense.

Thats pretty vague dude, I dont think he is. The fact you picked that out shows maybe you observed Daron didn't speak his mind enough. If so you must empaphise with him and wouldn't say fuck you to him.

WOOO! My thread got an official bullion from the Scars myspace!

Isn't it great that people are so quick to take things out of context and shit on his chest? Oh how I can't wait for this album.
Didn't see any "FUCK YOU SERJ" when the whole "tyranny of a down" thing hit. And THAT was more convincing.
haha, I really think people want a reason to hate Daron.

I guess so
its really weird, and I can't find explanation for this apart from that Daron is the less social animal of the 4 system of a down members and somehow some ppl find it offending
if that made sense
hackthesystem2 - Mar 29, 2008 - 04:12 PM
Post subject:
Remember all you people who said "Daron's lyrics suck" and "he can't write for shit?"
Well this song is a big middle finger to you people, now isn't it.
And the part about the "old times?"
Well if that refers to SOAD, I have to say:
Fuckin badass.
That's all.
Maybe he never got to mention "his mind" in interviews etc about the hiatus, much like Serj did in all the interviews Serj did. That's why he may have come out so harsh in that most recent interview.
Anyway, yeah, I STARTED the tyranny of a down thing, and you people hated me for it. Yet, there was never a "fuck you, Serj."
Hmm, this makes me wonder.
Good to be back.

I don't think he'd do that... you know diss SOAD..Plus i don't think that he didn't speak his mind...

Those 3 lines makes me think..

Who cares if hes dissing SOAD, that not what I was saying when I mentioned those two lines having to do with SOAD.
I thought it seemed like he was doing a bit of reminiscing.
Serj has come out with like 30+ videos of him talking about his music and the Hiatus.
And when Daron was quoted in some of the recent magazines people got all bitchy about it.
Hmm doesn't really make sense.
I think people do want a reason to hate Daron since the "Hiatus"
"They say" Might not be very long but we all now that Daron has the capability of producing something more, This is just a teaser.

I don't think those lines have anything to do with SOAD to be honest but it's definitely something to ponder.
Anythings possible. Rather funny if it really was about the break up.
These lyrics are amazing, truly. And I still think it has remnants of 80's metal. The whole "test of time" and some other parts like "given rights to all of man."

This song is just ok.
If you liked System of a Down I don't understand how anyone would be in love with this song.
It sounds like pop-rock and there are very typical lyrics.
It just sounds so mainstream and FAKE.
When I hear this song I think of middle school/ high school teenagers with t-shirts that say "broKen" or something like that, black make up on and wrist bands and "unique" piercings. Yet they all look the same.
baaaa
I liked Serj's album a lot more, and I realize now where what I love in System of a Down comes from... Serj. At least out of Serj or Daron as those are the only two I'm comparing.
This is only one song though. I have hope that the rest of the album will be good.

People listen to more than one genre of music maybe?
The same could be said about Serj's work. "Baby of baby I miss you" sounds "typical" to me.
And again, it's only one song. If I were to just here "X" from Toxicity, I'd hate SOAD.

Anyone who thinks differently probably falls in the teeny-bop wannabe-rock toting dorks in middle school who don't know the difference between good and bad music.

I was thinking the whole "dis system" thing too but, I think system is devoted to the fans (us). So with Serj's album and Daron's project we have everything that is System. While both are AMAZING IMO (even though we havent heard all of Daron's project), I think we all agree that a new SOAD album with Serj writing with Darons hardcore style riffs will be the shit. I dont think System will deny us that. I know system has changed my life and i know a bunch of you guys probably agree. I think THEY know that and will make new, dope as fuck music.
Meanwhile we get to listen to a little bit of what the individuals are inspired by...
(sorry im stoned...)
