Post subject: My review of the first ever Scars On Broadway concert
HOLYFUCKINGSHIT I just got home with my friend. To put it simply the concert was a-fucking-mazing.
So we swung around the Whisky at about 6:30. Thankfully there were still tickets. After that we found out scars started at about 10 we chilled at my friend's house till about 8.
Then we came in the middle of one of the other bands at around 8:30. They were very death metal punkish. Same with the following 3 bands. Finally it was Scars turn to go on stage.
There was a longass wait for scars to come on stage. To keep us entertained one of the roadies (I assume) came and played the melody for they say. Also another interesting thing is that they never publically said Scars's name. They just said "Special guest" or "you know who." They announced all the other bands.
So finally after 'dying from anticipation' there was a loud crowd roar, and down came Daron (looks like he gained a little weight), John, and 3 other guys! The other guys took up bass, keyboard, and another guitar/backup vocals (like serj has.)
They started off with a fast paced beat, and there was their first song. The crowd went fucking nuts, and I was too busy head banging and going crazy to remember many of the lyrics. "If we gonna live forever how we gonna kill each other. If we gonna kill each how we gonna live forever."
The second song was a more mellow song, and had this fucking amazing beat that reminded me of streamline. "Supercalafragalisticespecialidousious" <---I kid you not first lryic in song.
During the middle of the song there was a brief pause, and Daron sang "Drugs" solo from the old system of a down shows!!!
The third song had a bunch of pauses, and epic words without music then music coming in. It was about cocks, and whores XD.
The fourth and fifth song were both heavy metal, and I was just absorbing the music. Sorry don't remember the lyrcis all I know is that one of them has a sort of 'euro-beat.'
The middle of the concert someone asked me what I thought of them. I immediatly said "almost as good as system." He said "I think they're better."
There was one song that was in instrumental, until the end where there's like 10 words.
After that they playedanother few songs (lost track,) and each one was getting better and better. I kinda lost track of myself halfway through if you guys notice by my descriptions getting vaguer.
Anyway after that their very last song was they say. It sounds so badass live. The whole crowd was singing along with them! Daron said "I watch the president" and the crowd finished "kiss his family."
Pure epicness all the way, and the final guitar note was going on for like 5 mins while they said goodbye, and Daron hugged all the members of his band. John looks unchanged, but was using a diff drum set.
After all the scars members left the stage you could hear the crowd chanting "ONE MORE SCARS SONG," "ONE MORE SCARS SONG."
But then another band came, and I left.
Along with 99% of the crowd.
On the way out I got a sticker for SOB, and on the back there's a bunch of newspapers clippings and it says "the debut album coming this summer"
Scars is the shit.

oh my God greatest night ever! i was all the way in the front for the whole show. they came on, and i went insane like i've never gone insane before. when they started out the "We're On Drugs" part of the song, i went insane. I loved the song that had the lyrics "come and take some chemicals with me, come and take some chemicals!" Daron dived into the pit, i grabbed his leg, and as they were pulling him back on, i grabbed his arm and pulled it off the guitar, that was unbelievable. i've never gone as crazy as i did for when they played "they say." it sounded soooo much better live. right after that, john was throwing out his sticks, he came right in front of us, looked at someone behind me, and threw it in the air. I'VE NEVER JUMPED AS HIGH AS I DID THERE, I FOUGHT FOR THE STICK WITH ALL MY POWER, AND GOT IT!!!!! I then rushed out, and my friend was behind me and he said, "dude, you pulled the stick away from me!" i started laughing and kept it. I HAVE MY IDOL'S STICK THAT HE USED ON STAGE! i'll post pics up tomorrow. needless to say, it was one of the greatest nights ever.
EDIT: daron was using the gibson sg in black. the other guitarist was using a telecaster. john's kit was a lot smaller than that of the system days. daron's definitely put on a few pounds, john was amazing as usual. simply amazing!

they played around 12 songs, they didn't mention any titles. we took pics, those will be up tomorrow, i think my friend took some video, not sure though. i was literally 2 feet from the guys, amazing!
EDIT: GanjaEgoBrain, i saw watermann right when he walked on stage, i yelled out his name and he took a pic of me . i didn't recognize the other guys in the band... that stick is gonna be framed!

Gives me a bit of hope, but it sounds like another case of me rather shoving a corkscrew in my ears and twisting than hearing lyrics like that. Whatever. Seems like the music will be the saving grace.

i loved the lyrics, great stuff. one of the songs sounded a lot like radio/video. a lot of the songs were melodic, but they all had that traditional system feel to them.
EDIT: they say was great live. i loved the "we're on drugs" more than anything. i think all the songs were great, but i can't tell what's what till i hear the album version.

Dude it was amazing. At They Say, I figured fuck this. I pushed ALL the way to the front and Daron was right in front of me. We all sang with him and had a blast. They finish and I see one last pick on his pickguard. It was only the pick and NOTHING ELSE!! So, I climb up on stage and swipe it. It is the POD, the Pick of Destiny!

O_o I hope there'll be more intelligent input into SOB lyrics than that, I mean yeah the music will be alright but I'd rather not listen to something made entirely of insults that some 12 year old could think up.

This would really blow if no one recorded the show but that guy. I am glad I saw video, but you can hardly hear the lyrics on parts, and everything was muffled. I hope someone recorded better video and/or audio of the show. I appreciated the vids for what they were for, but I would be nice to have some audio we can all listen too, enjoy, and understand.
Hopefully something is posted within the next few hours.

According to Greg Watermann, he was going to be on the job at that gig, so we should be getting some professional pics at some time. I personally hope he got some of John, since you can't even see him in the you-tube vids.
And some other video could surface (or not). But they've got another gig at Coachella soon, and they are supposed to have a live streaming of that we can all watch on-line. And I'm assuming this is just the beginning, and at some point they will have a show in a city near me! And of course an album we can buy.
We just have to be patient & enjoy the little teasing tidbits we get before then. Consider it "foreplay", LOL.

don't really understand why some people have picked up on the fact that Daron has put on weight...i thought he had done so from about 2003 onwards...from Reading 03 (where he looked like Toxicity kinda weight...with a beard lol) but when Mezmerize came out he had onbviously put on weight - i also don't think the beard and the baggy black t-shirt he's wearing help either, bulk him out more etc....ive just got a feeling he lives by himself and orders in alot of take away food lol...total presumption though! anyway, who cares what he looks like (coming from me..who has just written a big paragraph about his weight! lol)

But I'm expecting, in the long range, big picture view, for the "side projects" to be less than System. Because I truly believe that System of a Down is greater than the talent of its individual parts. I really think there's a synergy that happens. And I'm looking forward to such a time that it happens again.

This is are SOAD boys here. And I think we should know by now that
whatever they put out side projects or SOAD that it is going to be Amazing. I don't like the idea to compare Serj's EtD and Scars On Broadway. Because it's Serj vs Daron again. I know Scars On Broadway is just going to be equally Amazing as Serj's EtD.

You can compress the photos using Winrar and then you upload them to mediafire, rapidshare, sendspace, etc

I think the best way is photobucket.com, but before uploading set the max image size to 1 megabyte file size

anyone notice that the large pic on Mike Shinoda's page looks really pixolated - like its a video or something...i clicked on it, assuming that it was and a page error came up....i hope that he realises and sorts it out IF it's a video!!!!! coz lets be honest..we're all going on about how "great" the videos are....except the small interlude for "Whore Street" you can't hear shit, sorry guys..but one of us has to be honest?! you can't hear the drums or darons vocals throughout 85% of the videos so i don't get why everyone is saying they're amazing, the only people that can judge properly are those that went!.....for me, the best part was when daron said.."i wanna see you guys boogie woogie"...PLEASE someone take a decent camera to Coachella...living in the UK..i've gota feeling i won't be able to see a them live for quite a while...

What great reminders of this totally kick ass show!!
I was so happy to have been there and to have met some wonderful people!!
As for the 'proshot' photos, I spoke to Greg Watermann before the show and he said that the guys wanted the pics up on their site by Monday. So it won't be too long before we see his photos. I don't know about the video they shot, tho. I should have asked him when I saw him with a videographer.
I wish I had the words to describe how amazing the songs are...and what the experience of hearing them for the first time was like. How's that go? "Talking about music is like dancing about architecture." Yeah. That's how it feels to me to try to bring the words together to describe it. All I can get to is "awesomely weird and heavy but not heavy and groovy but not really 'pop-y'." And not all the songs were like "They Say", either. A couple of them had quite complex melodies in parts (Complex! not "complicated". There is a difference.)
So was I on drugs last night or am I the only one who noticed that the guys (except for John) were all dressed like alike--black pants and black tees. And the other guitarist/vocalist and bassist wore beards, eyeliner, and hats....the other guitarist came down the stairs wearing a wig under his black fedora. So they weren't just dressed "alike"...they were dressed LIKE Daron. I didn't hallucinate that, did I?

maybe they dressed alike to trick us they were daron! i sure thought one of them was daron when they got on stage..but hen like 30 seconds later i see the ACTUAL daron come on stage! haha..
but i noticed all wore black.. lol
