Actually, this was probably the name the fans have given the song...like all of the songs from "Toxicity II" (the 'Steal This Album' demos/Toxicity sessions) were all titled by the fans themselves, not the actual band members.
It could've been called "36" for a different reason...it could be what the song is about...maybe the band KNEW they wanted this to be the 36th song that they've released (overall when tracks are listed altogether).
There are tons of possibilities on why the song is called "36" and since the song is such a short one, then if the meaning is somewhere in the song it would be hard finding it given the fact that nobody knows the real meaning of the song and the album has been out for about 5 years now.
But yeah, anyways the song is not called "Your Own Pace" if it was titled "36" back in '95 or '97 or whenever. I could be wrong though, I'm not quite sure. Anyone else have info on this?
*Edit* - Also, I think that the hidden track that could be counted as a song itself that isn't listed when you look at the songs altogether could be "Arto" the hidden track at the end of "Aerials" on "Toxicity"... |

What if you don't think about the length of time and merge it with the meaning of the song?
I mean, the song seems to be about living your own life at your own pace, and nowadays the fad seems to be to live for as long as you can while staying as young as you can, so maybe Serj is saying as well as living to your own thoughts and processes, live your life to any age you wish because it's your life. |

| If ya look at the CD of the album, the CD is numberd 36 so it might be a title joke....just an opinion ( Meaning dont rash on me D= ) |

My opinion on the reason why the song was titled ''36'' is because in the song lyrics it's saying that television is a disgrace and to live life in your own pace and to see things for yourself rather than rely on TV and to basically to live life the way you want to.  |
