Quite the title, isn't it? Here's my take on the live version of SOAD's "Kill Rock 'n' Roll."
The tech side of things:
The song begins with a light guitar intro, not dissimilar to the one found on "Toxicity." Serj begins to moan... and then a thrashing riff removes your eardrums. The verse is simple and repeated, but manages to sound completely and totally kickass. In its simplicity, I think, is a deeper meaning. The chorus is not far behind, with a softer, more emotional theme to it. Then the band launches into another verse, with a less obvious meaning than the chorus. Rinse, wash, and repeat: the chorus, and then the first verse are then repeated, topped off by a finalistic and impressive halt to it all.
In my opinion:
Kickass. Headbanging abound: lead me to the pit. |

| Kill rock N Roll might be one of the best songs on Hypnotize. |

I think it has a deeper, less obvious meaning to the song that changes with the opinion of the listener. That's what makes it a brilliant song in my view, but I bet nobody cares what I think. |

I can't wait for Hypnotize, this song and Holy Mountain are absolutely amazing. I've been listening for the live versions of these songs a lot today, I love them so much. |

I love Daron's opening comments on the song..."When I was a little shit, I used to talk to god. And I said you motherfucker, and he said YOU motherfuck, gotta grow up and KILL rock'n'roll...Kill rock and roll and fuck all the sexy people....and I did."
Then it just burst into song and you got thrown into one amazing musical ride....I love this song! |
