this is where our [Americans] money goes:

http://thebudgetgraph.com/view/

It's the "president's budget request"

Military: 633 Billion (64%)
Non-Military: 350 Billion (36%)

Not very surprised.

Good find, though.

I was not surprised by this at all. Whereas this government can't find money for education or health programs, they can always manage to find money for the military. Perhaps if the US Govt just minded their own business and stopped fighting imaginary weapons of mass destruction we wouldn't need to spend all that money on the military. Politics suck.

Yeah, this was a good find. Thanks!

lol. You guys. Crack me up. Protecting the entire free world is expensive.

And national defense should be the gov't. top priority. The less they get involved in individual citizens lives with their social programs, the better.

"Protecting the entire free world" Laughing

I'm sorry, but that's just plain silly. There's other countries that help protect the free world besides the US. We just happen to be the biggest player.

However, it seems to me that 64% isn't really that high. I think it should be more the state government's responsibility to pay for schools and health care than the federal government.

Why don't you just stop playing the cops and mind yours own business instead of sticking your nose in others' countries.

But doesn't tax-payers money go to federal gov?
I think that health and education should be the priority of all goverments.

I don't know. I don't control American foreign policy. We were isolationist, but WW2 happened.

And the world doesn't want us to be isolationist. Look at Darfur, who were people complaining about? Were people bothering France to get into Darfur? No. The demand was for the US to do something. Nobody wants the United States around, until the shit hits the fan.

Look at any UN venture, who funds it, who fights it?

Yes. There needs to be less taxes. Less government spending.

It works better when individuals are responsible for themselves instead of Big Brother.

I was under the understanding that this chart only represented the federal government's spending, not state and local governments'.. unless I'm mistaken.

I would like to think my taxes go to schools, health and other issues, but i know better.
In the state of Washington they are having to close several schools due to lack of funding. They need 5 million dollars to save these schools, in the same breathe 5 million dollars is how much the prison system gets to fix inmates teeth...people who have fucked up their mouths due to meth and other abuses. Makes perfect sense to me.
