rightwinger, okay, if you meant to bash France, I apologise for not seeing it. I have seen you do so in other posts, but, I did not think that is what you were doing here as much as using them as an example and you could have picked any other European country to prove your point just the same, it is just that France is so well known. That is how I saw it.

You are correct. But I will bash France from time to time. Not nearly as much as the pinata that is America on this forum, but I suppose a couple anti-French comments are too much for the senses.

Eh France did what it thinks was best for its country to not get involved with the war. Seeing how Iraq is a mess, I think they played their hand pretty well.

Bush is A Child in a Sandbox: He Can't Even Speak Properaly half(hence bush bloopers) the Time, and He's Chasing after Imaginary things(WoMD's). But overall I wish that he would spend more money on his people rather then his 'war on Terror' or w.e hes calling it these days, Yet it doesnt suprise me that he spends it elsewear. Where as to the Fact That The Prison System is messed up to , i agree cause personaly i belive theres other ways inmate can spend there time then Being Bubba's Bitch and getting free meals and a bed to live in.. im pretty Sure there better off than homeless people.

Alright. I wanted to wait until I had some numbers. But here they are.

WHERE GOV'T SPENDS MONEY

17% education
16% medicare and medicaid.
15% national defense
14% social security
9% other gov't transfers
rest: other goods and services.
-------------------------------

WHERE GOV'T GETS MONEY:
35% personal income tax
28% social insurance taxes
8% corporate income taxes
29% other

Fun fact. In 2003, gov't spending totaled 35.7% of the GDP, while tax revenues collected 32.6% of the GDP.

And cutting taxes, while increasing spending = deficits, which is why we are where we are. And for you people on the Bush-hate bandwagon, Bush is the only leader EVER to cut taxes during a war time. The national debt I think is approaching 9 trillion pretty fast. The public debt is at about 4.1 trillion I believe.

The democrats are tax and spend liberals, the Republicans borrow and spend. What is a rightwinger such as myself to do?? Become very very cynical.

Anyways. Just thought you'd guys be interested in the numbers. Of course. As always. These numbers are solely my opinion, and all of you are allowed to disagree with them. Some say the gov't doesn't collect taxes, which is a perfectly valid opinion, which I respect and admire. Some say we are lead by a dragon, again. Who am I to judge?

High taxes = More public service...I hate rich ass people who is complaining about the taxes...I think it is good to have high taxes on rich people and low taxes on poor people...everyone should have healthcare and smaller things like taking the bus should be very cheap (dosnt know about bus stuff in the US). Here in sweden many young peolpe complains about the new bus prices... before our election (rightwingers won) we had very low bus prices but now...well taxes are good!

EDIT: I may also add that our rightwinger partie is a just a little more right than the democrats...in sweden republicens iare like brutal!...but I guess our leftwinger politics is the same for america!

Students aren't 'imprisoned' by zip code. If they have good grades in their local school they can transfer to any other school they want to.
If they do not keep up good academic performance then they are sent back.

Well that sucks (for Americans).

Methinks a lot of UK tax money goes to "ministerial allowances" ... considering clearly hardly any actually gets to the NHS these days ¬_¬

I now strongly believe the walls of my public high school are meant to contain me, not to protect me.

None of the taxes my family and I are paying seem to be benefiting the things I need. IMO the lower the national (federal) taxing, the better. However, higher local taxes are more acceptable and practice because it is my belief that many small communities get over looked. The state wants to build a massive new bridge... while the small riverside community struggles to fund its levy project. I just think that local taxes can be used more efficiently and more to the benefit of the people than national taxes.

I think goverments should really think where to put tax money that they get. Only one whose standard salary is rising are members of parlament. And then it's so hard to them to keep their promisses to give little more to nurses as they promises in campaigns. I'm not complaining we have still very good education and healthcare system here, but the budget cuts in schools are visible. Bigger class sizes and closing schools eg.

It's funny how people say that we don't want war, we don't want anythng like this no, we want peace. And at the same they're spending millions to create army, to teach guys to fight. And they call it as defence force what a f'*k? What they nowdays need to defence 'cause if someone wants to kill us they just push the button and few missiles are coming and so the whole nation is in pieces. End of story. And if I have army my neightbors may think it as threat, "why they need army, are THEY going to attack, omg we should have army too" yep the point was that I can't see ideas of spending money to military, at least not so much as nowdays in many countries.

What good way to spend tax moneys then? Simple focusing education, health care, and supporting families. We have to also solve problems with global warming, food crises and oil. And help to develope poor countries

I'm sure they know where to put it...in their pockets! Parties get money from the state, the Church does, even the tycoons...who are supposedly those who would make the money!
