Ok, I've been playing guitar for a year and a half to two years now and have had the same guitar all that time. I have a Peavey Raptor EXP Plus, which is just a beginner guitar. But now that I have more experience, knowledge, and just more skills, I'm looking for a new guitar.

But I don't know which one I should get. Yeah I've been to the music place and have tried many, many guitars, but I still don't have a good idea of what I want in a guitar.

I want one that'd be good for players like me (I just play System, Children of Bodom, Slipknot, etc.; and rarely go into Standard.). One good for intermediate players.

And I'd also like a guitar that can tune down without "hurting the guitar."
What I mean is like, when you tune down (lets say, to Drop C), your guitar sounds like total shit when you play it, and it seems like when you strum, the guitar is having a hard time handling how loose the strings are. I tried it on my cousin's Epiphone Les Paul and that's what happened.

Any suggestions for me?

And keep in mind that I've got about $17. Razz

Here's my tip. Don't listen to other people unless you've tried it yourself.

Go to Guitar Center, tell the floor salespeople your dilemma, and try away. That's what the store is for.

Have fun. (but $17 won't buy you very much, maybe a new strap)

haha^^ at guitar center i dont even think you can get a strap for $17.

my advice to you my friend, i have an iceman and it does great with C tuning, doesnt do anything but hold its stregnth, no loose strings what so ever and it gives out a great sound. These are a bit expensive so, on another note, i also have an Ibanez GAX70, which only cost me $100 dollars on sale at guitar center, but i think they are originally $200. No loose strings on this one either. I like Ibanez's, they hold up great and put out tremendous and bold sounds (especially my Iceman).
so save so money would be my first Post Hypnotic Suggestion to you, go to GC and just try out the guitars, tune them down and up a few times wear the strings in a little, and then tune down to C and see how it holds up. Go for the Ibanez bro!

The GAX70 is very light, playing for hours wonīt be a problem.
But I didnīt play it for hours. But thatīs a whole different story...^^
I have the Ibanez ADX-120.
If it is tuned down to C,you wonīt have any problems.
But for playing above the 15th fret you need some pickup-adjustment,otherwise the strings touch the pickups->No sound at all.
Itīs about 300$.If you donīt like the DMM1-shape,just check out the new X-Series on Ibanez.com.
They all are the same price, except Xiphos...

Thanks for the info guys, but one thing: There's no GC here Laughing Just a shitty little ripoff. And they don't sell Ibanez guitars.

They DO sell a shitload of Fenders, BC Rich, Hamer, Peavey and ripoff brands of those.

I might go there Monday and try some more out. Thanks again!

BC Rich! I Have A BC Rich Warlock, Which Is Also The Same Guitar Mick From Slipknot Used Before He Switched. And If You Want To Drop Your Tuning, You have To Get Different String Gauges, Because It's Not A Matter Of Whether or Not The Guitar Can Handle It (Although I Have Dropped My Tuning Without Changing The Strings, And It's Not That Bad) And You Can Get BC Richs Pretty Cheaply, If You Shop Around A Bit.

^It works on my guitar. It can make VERY heavy sounds, and also solos. But the solos donīt sound like that Kerry-King-style,itīs more this Tom-Morello-sound.Explaining a sound is very hard.By the way,I bought the guitar without knowing how it sounds. My parents ordered it as kinda present.I knew they ordered it,but itīs fucking cool to come home and see a brandnew guitar waiting to be played.
