| There will be a discussion about these things like rivalry (which don't exists, imo) until they finally get back to SOAD. So this "bitching" is quite unimportant and boring, but people need this... And why don't you trust what they say? If they say that soad didn't broke up, nor will in the future, that's maybe not bullshit. |

It is true that Serj was the one who wanted to go solo, and it is true that he was the one who "left" the band.
With all the right to go and do his own stuff, but he's the cocky element, while all the other members are collaborating with other people in some projects like daron and John in Scars, Shavo and his friends in Achozen/urSession , Serj is the only one who wanted badly to have his name above the fold and brag that he has 3 thousands songs (or whichever the crap number was) and doing 10 interviews per week and he's just all over the media.
Even in the interviews with him talking about System, while other members of the band are trying to make it sweeter and say they MIGHT come back at some point, he always like, there's no come back for now, later, or there's no system anymore, like he said in that interview for kerrang (the end of the system as we know it) search for it in the news section.
In the other side, Daron could easily make an album with his name on it, and he's pretty much capable to do this as a great musician, but yet since he's way much less full of himself, he prefers to go into "team-work"

We ALL, and I mean ALL, heard 'elect the dead' coz it was Serj from System.
If this album was released before System, it would be great failure now, and he would never have such support from fans or artists who directed his 12 videos or musicians who co-operated with him and made his album 'listenable' |

SerJ's solo effort to me actually sounds like another SOAD record - just without the other members.
I kept asking myself "why did they go on a hiatus if they made Elect The Dead". |

I think the over a thousand songs thing was a mis-print. At first it was 1400-1500 songs but then the next interveiw I saw 400-500 which is still a crapload.
I think what happend was during the Hypnotize/Mezmerize sessions is that they all kinda fought for material and eventually Darons prevailed and Serj kept most of his stuff back then later released it on ETD. |

As much as I "politely dislike" the "new" Serj, for many reasons (The whole "system may not come back" thing, and the weird anti-Daron hints in songs (Money) and interviews to name a few),
I can't altogether blame him for wanting to step out on his own...I mean, Daron sorta took over alot of his job as singer, and a loooot of the attention too. I bet Serj might have felt a litte useless singing backup on songs like "Lonely Day", as he's on paper the LEAD singer...And we've heard alot of times that Daron is somewhat...dictative... during studio sessions...
But then again, I can't really blame Daron for wanting to do HIS songs HIS way. If I wrote some really good art, I'd wanna make sure I could make it as faithful to the vision of it as possible. Also, Serj got alot of credit in the beginning for writing the songs, which he did, (some of them)...and maybe Daron was just taking what he believed was his rightful place in the "spotlight"
And as for the cocky thing...Serj has been a media slut lately, but Daron has said some odd things too..."System is MY signature sound"...It may be true...that's debatable...but it really sounded spiteful to me...
Another noticeable thing is how all the members of SOAD have been working together except for Serj and Daron...of course, it can be said that it's because they don't want their music to sound too much like system...but come on...Serj...Elect the Dead? Really?
o_o
Does anyone know if Daron has made any comment on "Elect the Dead"? |

Oh wow this thread is so debatable
the first thing I would like to say,
is thank you Sugar for the post
I agree with a lot of the things ZAk said,
about Serj.
I still love Serj to death, but I get the feeling that he is getting way too cocky.
I liked his album a lot but I think he could have done so so so so so much better.
I used to feel like Daron was the one that was cocky, and blah blah blah,
but I'm starting to feel like I was taking it one-sided.
I don't like thinking bad about any of the guys, considering that I'm literally OBSESSED with their music and them themselves, but I guess I can't think 100% positive on Daron and Serj anymore.
Serj used to talk about how he wouldn't censor his music and stuff, right?
Well look at Empty Walls. At the end they take out they fuck your empty walls and from behind those fucking/god damn walls and just put the usual line.
And what the hell is up with him at all of these MTV events and shit!
But whatever if his way of marketing and way of music have changed that is his deal and he should be able to do whatever he wants.
It's not my deal.
I just definitely prefer the Serj from ST up to STA.
And with Daron,
I know a lot of ppl get mad when someone says this, but he did kind of take over with Mez/Hyp.
I still love Mez/Hyp, but I feel like it was basically Scars on Broadway featuring Serj Tankian.
I don't think it was really the same "team work" that it was in all the other albums.
However I'm glad that Daron is being a lot more underground about SoB than Serj is on EtD.
As much as it annoys me that there aren't any good vid interviews with Daron since System, it also makes me kind of happy that he isn't relying on the media.
My point is,
I think for the most part there is still rivalry between Daron and Serj,
but there is still a bond between them. |
