When I arrive to the Alcatraz in Milano at 2 pm, there's already something like 30 people waiting - the gates won't be opened before 7, so I go looking for painkillers and something to eat, before joining the queue at 3 smtg. Nothing to do except chainsmoking and chatting with the other people on how practically nobody has ever heard of Serj Tankian and System Of A Down in this country etc. etc.
At 7 o'clock the doors open and we all rush toward the stage - well I have to leave my backpack and jacket at the wardrobe before, and when I reach the stage there are 5 rows of people waiting, many of them taller than me. Shit. I ?ll never take pictures, I think, and I'll die in the pit.
We wait till 8.15 when the opening band (In Me) begin to play. They suck, and some guys greet them shouting "Vaffanculo!" and "Back To England!", but they don't seem to understand. Finally at 9 they leave, and while the crew do their job we start calling "Sergio! Sergio!", and chanting Chop Suey and other SOAD hits. 9.30 - the FCC hit the stage, and then comes The Man..."Buonasera Milano! I'm Serj, and these are the Flying Cunts of Chaos!" They play Sounds Of War (great song!), and since it's slow I can take a few pics of him. Then they played Empty Walls and we went crazy, people moshing like hell and crowd surfing, I saw a couple of girls leaving the first rows becuse of the excessive pressure...but we all sang along. Serj's voice was perfect, he was in a really good shape. He said "This song is dedicated to your asshole new prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, Lie Lie Lie!" (we, "YEEEAAAAHH!") and made a funny gesture with his hand. Again, we were singing along and jumping. Then came Feed Us, then he complimented us and said "This is my special love song for you" and played Saving Us. Then he introduced bassist Mario Pagliarulo "from Napoli" and here we go with Money! And this is when I started feeling bad - too much heat and pressure, no air, no water - I couldn't move at all.
Serj switched to the keyboards to play Elect The Dead and I hoped the crowd would draw back allowing us to breathe but no, they kept pushing - damn you motherfuckers!
I don't remember in which order they played the other songs, only that The Unthinking Majority was preceded by a short speech and a "Fuck Bush! Fuck Berlusconi!" (and might I add fuck all the bloody suckers who voted them if you didn't say it) - at this point I had to leave for fresh air, cuz I was about to throw up and faint. Shit.
Anyway - they played the whole album of course, no Charades (I prefer it Serj/piano-only version), no Girl, and they ended the show with a great Holiday In Cambodia. Ah, and when playing Beethoven's Cunt , in the last verse instead of "left in time", he said "left in Italy" (hehe).
One of the best gigs I've ever seen. Come back here soon, man, please (I'll bring an armour though) Laughing

yaay Im first to comment on your awesome review, my sister Smile

Sounds like it was a great show although I feel bad for you because you had to leave the front rows too early.. I hate those tall guys who never care about smaller women Evil or Very Mad (wait, guys, Ill kick your asses if you are between me and Serj)

Good to see Serj is healthy and in a good mood again.. hope it will stay like this.. and I hope he will come back to Italy soon so you can see him again. Smile
