i've got two questions:
when writing a song, which part should you write first? lyrics, guitar, drums, etc
when recording a song, which track should be recorded first? drums, guitar, etc? |

I don't think it matters either way really.
It all depends really, sometimes writing the music first, and than the lyrics are better for some people, and vice versa for others. Sometimes when you write the music first, it will help you think of lyrics to go along with the music, and sometimes when you write the lyrics first music will come to that will fit those lyrics and such. It all depends which works better for you and such. |

it is everyone to their own, but i find for recroding once i can get the guitar tracks and drum tracks perfect in line, i can add everything else from there.
but when i writing i get the lyrics and the guitar in line, first
(i find it harder to get a drum to fit around a riff rather than a riff to fit around a drum) |

| for me, the most easy way is (when you already know the lyrics and the guitar part) - 1)record guitar 2) record vocal 3) get the lazy bass player to record the bass 4) give this junk to the drummer so that he would make his magic on it.. |

^Thats a horrible way to record.
Recording should go...
1, Click Track/Metronome
2, Guide Guitar/Bass (rough tracks for the drummer to play along to)
3, Drums
4, Bass
5, Chord instruments (Guitars/Keyboard etc)
6, Vocals
As for songwriting do whatever you want, theres no set rule saying one must come first. |

You're doing it wrong. Everyone writes songs differently. It's annoying but that;s how it is. Some people need other people to write with. I myself like to have a melody to write to. Where as a friend of mine will write a riff I'll write a chord progression for it to go over and we'll build it up from there. |

Book excerpt of "The Beatles as musicians":
"Its is common for McCartney to compose is tunes long before Lyrics are decided on. At times, Paul would write his tune with nonsense lyrics that would be replaced later: yesterday began as Scrambled eggs" "Beatles producer Geoge Martin said that McCartney usually began with music, Lennon with lyrics."
you can start doing whatever you want.
