I don't feel like it's a disaster, not at all. A lot of people come out with this shit, but you can't compare Serj and Scars.
Serj is already a name, but Scars On Broadway is a new brand. And music of Scars is pretty different from Serj.
And who says 58000 is a bad number? (for a beginning band)
ok don t compare with serj..........but 58 000 is a poor result....and yes is a new brand, but daron and john are not unknown people ...and i think for the ego of Daron THIS RESULT is a total disaster |

| I hate when they keep comparing Scars to system and bash their album sales...or Daron's 'ego' |

The record sales don't mean shit. And for a new band, their CD has sold well I think. One of my favorite bands has sold like 400000 records, over 11 years.
Not becoming a mainstream success on the first record doesn't mean you've "failed", jeez. But since Soad became so mainstream I guess that's the kind of fans they got after a while... |

There are many factors as to why Scars on Broadway has not sold much. Not an excuse, just things to look at.
1) no heavy promotion. there wasn't any heavy promotion for the band other than fan things. they didn't do 100 interviews 5 months before they released the album. for the most part, it was pretty quiet for a band with two marquis names.
2) time. scars didn't begin to promote their album until 2 years after the hiatus. Unlike Serj, who began almost immediately after the hiatus, with heavy promotion. after two years, a lot have already stopped thinking about system.
3) bitter fans. because of the mixed feelings with their latest double album, some system fans didn't give scars any attention out of their own grudges and personal beliefs about the hiatus. like daron stated in some interview I read 'the odds were against them'.
As for the ego thing, I do not buy it. the sales figures have been known for a long time. If you really look at it, Serj's album did terrible considering the way he was so heavily marketed. (it's been a year, and it's only at 300k? that's awful considering his voice is one of the most recognizable thing from system) daron's always been passionate about music. I do not really think that the money played a huge role in this sudden cancel the the US tour.
Sorry for my english, I am not American.

^^To be honest with you at some point I felt that Serj kinda overly promoted his album: he was everywhere.
Yeah if Daron had some ego thing going on he must have some talent to hide it when with fans... |

What i was thinking about today is, is 58000 really that bad? like considering all the downloading and torrents people use im actualy shocked people still buy cd's, dont get me wrong i feel sad that people arent supporting most artists and not buying their cd's. Like i only buy cds for bands i really want to support for everything else ill just download.
So im pondering how is the music industry still alive? |

He didn't want to promote it and release like 3 songs before the albums release like Serj did. I think Daron did this intentionally to get that suprise factor like he did with the Whiskey show.
IMO I think someone in his family passed or a good friend of his did. Theres no ego at all because if there was he would have done more promotion than Serj.
I don't think we will ever know. I dunno listen to the songs backwards or something and maybe you'll find out what he's up to. |
