Im new around here, so my word doesnt carry much wieght however i would like to make a suggestion and hopefully give some straightforward logic behind them
Spam... the source of all evil of course, however even freud said that everyone needs an outlet for thier darker urges (ok i made that up but he probably did)
The two main arguments for a spam section are as follows
1) Its fun
2) Having seen it used on other forums i have frequented in the past, it considerably cuts down on the overflow of spam in other forum sections... The quality of the posts generally ranges from 'SPAM!!! i am bored' to 'i liek battered mars bars!!! lolol' but it is virtually guaranteed to cut down useless spam from other areas of the forum, it is also a good place to post in if it is unclear where your thread will best fit in other areas of the board...
This area is normally set to auto prune or is pruned periodically by moderators... it is easier to prune spam if its all organised neatly in one place.
next, the hatepit
This is another thing i have seen very sucessfully implemented, it is literally a place where you can go to vent.... common uses are
'Cuss the person above you' a fun game where you insult the person who posted before you, anything goes, people get to vent and since its all in good fun no one takes anything seriously
'I hate you all, and this is why' Inults directed at forum members, with a heavy dose of satire, a sprinkling of sarcasm and of course none of it is taken, or given seriously
Again, this prevents the overflow of hate, flaming and insults in other areas of the forum... since a post in this section is by definition done with good humour one can single someone who pissed them off out, send some insults thier way, then go off and share a beer
This also allows mods and administrators to get down and dirty with the general populace, increasing the feeling of comradeship without undermining thier own authority...
Anyway, you guys may or may not want this in your board, but im just putting it out there... think about it at least  |

| well we've tried the Spam thing here before and it hasn't worked, and it's easy to say that ppl don't take a hatepit seriously but in practice, it jus won't happen |

| I don't see why a spam forum would make a difference. the main problem isn't spam topics, its particular topics easily wavering off-topic. |
