Bad Acid Trip started playing at exactly 7:00pm. And, I gotta admit, they were pretty cool! They played a couple songs and they were over within about 45 minutes. (My dad admited later that night that, to him, they were the most entertaining band. He said that he really enjoyed them.)
Then, the Mars Volta came on. (My dad told me that he didn't really care for these guys.) I was excited to get to see them because I had never heard any of their songs and Meaghan told me that they were really good. And, I liked them! They were also pretty cool! But, the only thing I didn't like about it was how they just continuously played. You never knew when one song ended and when another song began. Anyhoo, I'm assuming that the band is made up of Mexicans because there was one song sung entirely in spanish and they had Mexican flags on stage. ( I could be wrong, though.) They ended some 45 min. to an hour later.
But, the most exciting event that WHOLE night was when System of a Down came on!!!! I was screaming at the top of my lungs at the end of every song! And guess what! (What?!) Daron wore his new red blazer! But, he took it off after the first couple songs. (Serj did the same with his coat and striped shirt.) I loved it when they played "This Cocaine...", I was waiting for that song to be played. Although, the best songs (in my opinion) I heard that night were probably "Mr. Jack" and "Kill Rock n' Roll". System did an incredible job at playing both songs. I was a little upset that Serj didn't move around a lot. All he was really doing was moving side-to-side. He danced very little, and at one time, he was standing next to John. One of my favorite parts of that evening was when they were playing "Suite-Pee" During the "Lying naked on the floor..." part, Serj and Shavo got down on their knees. Daron was humping his guitar (or, at least he looked like he was). Oh, how I wish I was his guitar at that moment. LOL! *sigh* And because I'm such a devoted fan, I stood up the entire time they played. I never, at once, sat down in my seat. I also head-banged and sang along all night long. After "Suite-Pee", I remember Serj saying something like, "Thanks to Bad Acid Trip for being here tonight! Thanks to the Mars Volta! And, thank YOU Orlando! You're fucking beautiful!" That's when they started "Sugar". You guys have no idea how pumped I was when they played that song! Everybody in that arena was jumpin' all over the place!
And then, just like that, it was over! T-T EVERYONE in that arena was yellin' "ENCORE, ENCORE..." over and over, but they never came back out. What a pity....
So, there you have it people, there's my review of the best night of my life! I'm not complaining! I got to see SYSTEM OF A DOWN!!!!!!!! |

I was there too.. amazing show.
I wasn't a big fan of Bad Acid Trip.. they played their 30 min., sounded like a standard hardcore 'underground' type band, not something I'm really into, and the drummer/guitarist/bassist were ok. The doll humping thing was really strange too.
Mars Volta was.. different. That guy's voice makes Daron sound like Barry White. There were 8 guys on stage, playing a lot of instruments.. kinda like a tripped out 60's concert. Their first 'song' lasted about a half hour (great sax solo in there), then they played The Widow, then went back to jamming for their last 20 min or so. It was pretty strange how they never once talked to the audience..
System was fantastic, my first time being able to see them. They were spot on all night, and sounded better than all the great live vids/audio I've been listening too. The lower bowl and the floor were packed (I was about halfway up the lower bowl on Daron's side), and there were a lot of pits/ crowd surfers. Shavo had his section going nuts, especially during the 'put your hands in the air' part of Lost in Hollywood, and he even had a security guy give his wristband to a certain person at the end of the show. I was also impressed by some of the moves Daron was pulling off while playing guitar, and how animated he was. They threw a nice cover in there that I haven't heard them play before, pretty sure it's by Dire Straights, but don't know the title. The intro to Cigaro was awesome too.
I can't remember the setlist, but the Pensacola one looks almost right once I change around a few songs:
Soldier Side
B.Y.O.B.
Revenga
Know
Needles
Deer Dance
Suggestions
Psycho
Chop Suey
Kill Rock 'N' Roll
Sad Statue
Violent Pornography
Mr. Jack
Cigaro
This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm on This Song
Bounce
ATWA
Forest
Lost in Hollywood
Question!
War?
Prison Song
Aerials
Toxicity
Science
Suite-Pee
Sugar |

The show was awsome, god they rocked the hell out of the TD waterhouse, it was great when daron did his little solo of "rock and roll is here to stay" and fallowed it up with "Kill rock and roll" Bounce had to be the best song they played that night, when shavo got on the mic and was like "If you are crazy, i want you to BOUNCE, JUMP!
I get goosebumps thinking about it |
