When I heard that System of a Down was coming to Winnipeg, I was so psyched! I went onto the ticketmaster website and begged my dad to buy me tickets. He eventually gave in. I was counting down the days. They seemed to be forever, until the day finally came. I was so excited, because this was my first concert ever! When I walked into the MTS Center, there was a long line. Turns out that they were padding everybody down, and the female line was a lot shorter than the male line. (Lucky me). I finally got inside the actual stadium, which was a lot cooler than I thought it would be. I took my seat in row 4 of section 330, and waited for the magic to begin...

HELLA

Hella? Hella was bad. They originally were a duo, but added a bassist and a keyboardist/guitarist for more sound. Unfortunately, they sucked. After 30 minutes of bad tech-rock, Hella left the stage, and almost everybody cheered. I went up and got to the bathroom, annoying the people down the row. When I returned, people were screaming for the Mars Volta.

MARS VOLTA

They started out with a slow Mexican trumpet song, as the 8 band members walked onto the stage. Apperantly, they played 4 prog-rock songs, and I could'nt tell when another song ended or started. And it took an hour to finish! Anyways, did you know that Mars Volta translated into english means 'Alien Shit'? Sorry, way off topic, just thought you'd like to know. Anyways, I went for another bathroom break, and I was sure that the people down the row were getting VERY pissed off. When I walked back to my seat, the 'Mezmerize' curtain was up, and I was very anxious. Then the story all unfolded...

SYSTEM OF A DOWN

As soon as the lights went down, the entire stadium roared. A silhouette of Daron appeared, and the crowd roared even louder as he started to play Solider Side. It was played beautifully. Then the curtain dropped and they broke into B.Y.O.B. Every single band member looked gorgeous! After was Revenga, which was completely awesome! Then they played Prison Song, Psycho, Suggestions, This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song, Sad Statue, Suite-pee and Bounce.
I was so excited when they started to play Question! Before I left the house, I said to my mom "I know they're not going to play it, but I really want them too". And they did! And it was really well done, especially with the crowd screaming along with Serj.
They also played Deer Dance and Chop Suey, which are some of my favourite songs. Chop Suey was completely awesome, with the crowd singing along at the end. Deer Dance was just overally awesome.
They played Mr. Jack, and Shavo sat down for the entire song.
When they played Toxicity, however, Shavo got up and stood in front of the amp.
Before the song Needles was played, Daron said 'It's time to pull some tapeworms out of our ass', and started to play the opening solo, which was hardcore! In the middle of the song, Daron bent down with his ass to the audience and pretended to pull a tapeworm out of his ass. The crowd loved it!
When they stared playing Lost In Hollywood, everbody flicked out their lighters and sang along. This was one of the best songs and one of my favourite songs of the night.
And of course, they played Cigaro, with the slow beginning and Daron singing "My cock, is much bigger, than yours".
In the middle of their performance, Serj said to the mosh pit "Can everybody step back so people don't die?" Of course, everybody in the Pit moved back.
The entire night came to an end, as Daron said "Give it up for the Mars Volta" and "Give it up for yourself!" This speech received loud cheers from the audience.
But when Daron said "Give it up for Hella", most people booed them. And Daron came back with "If you booed Hella, then you have a small dick". Everybody started laughing! This wonderful night ending with "Sugar", a toss of guitar picks and drum sticks, and a thanks from the band.

When the concert finally finished, my friend, my dad and I went back a few blocks to where our Jimmy is. We dropped off my friend and went home. I had tall glasses of water, for I could not speak and I smelt of weed. When I went to sleep, I dreamt of the concert again, seeing Daron's silhouette, the "Small Dick" speech, and the lighters in Lost In Hollywood. It turns out that my first concert was a blast, and I'd do anything to see System of a Down in concert again, for it was the greatest experience of my life.
