I noticed no one has posted a review for Fresno, so I will try my best and throw down my own.
I've been a loyal fan Of SOAD since their self titled album, and been waiting for years for them to perform in Fresno. Being Armenian and all I thought it would be electrifying for them to perform in a city with a lot of Armenians.
My buddies and I got to the Save Mart Center right at 6:45, the stadium holds approx. 14,000 fans when we arrived to our seats 1/3 of the center was full, which I figured wasn;t a big deal since Hella would be performing for 30 mins. Hella's two members appeared on stage their drummer and guitarst, I really feel for the drummer he's very talented but is being held back in such a shitty garage band. After 10 mins of deuts between the two, the remaining two members joined, and gave us 20 more mins of hell. At one point a fan yelled "Get the HELL of the stage." lol, they need some help bad. The singer/keyboard player was nauseating say to less.
Finally Mars Volta would arrive to an awsome entrance of Marachie music, which I thought was the best thing next to the song "Widow" that would happen for them all night. Long, Long, Long boring sets for over an hour, half the time I couldn;t understand anything he was singing. Funny segment happened with SOAD, they came out with luchador masks during one of Mars Volta's song, from where I was sitting very bottom section to the right of the stage, about midcourt. I couldn't make out if it was John or Serj, I was defenatly able to spot out Shavo, and Daron. They did some funny crawling around stage and messing around with the drummer, and keyboard players which got a good reaction from the crowd. By than the stadium was maxed out. The anticipation started to set in with the hot crowd.
Finally, lights out, Curtain down. On comes Daron in the spotlight to perform Soldier Side which I cracked up listening to his manly voice.
Crowd was fired up piling on to the floor, which sold out in one day. As the curtain fell, I became Mezmerized myself not believing this was happening the long years and months of waiting finally paid off. Serj Screams YOUUUUUU and the Save Mart Center started to rock the roof off as BYOB brought the crowd to a frenzy. Mosh pits started forming all around the floors and even took the crazyness to the stands.
The crowd fed off from the energy SOAD supplied us and vice versa. From BYOB to Sugar the crowd was hot, moshing to every song performed. Including Lost In Hollywood. After BYOB, came Revenga, than Know. Daron introduced us to Hypnotize which will be released in November, damn a hot song as well Daron and Serj really have great chemistry and I would love to hear them two mix more and more in future titles.
When Hypnotized finished, the spotlight hit Daron and he said Tonight is a very special night for SOAD. Being Armenian and all, and all the Armenians in Fresno, to which half the crowd erupted. From what I saw about 4 Armenian flags where being waved throughtout the crowd. He said before Glendale, before Hollywood their was FRESNOOOOOO. Serj also thanked us and said we give them a lot of energy somewhat of a homecoming for them.
The rest of 20+ songs would not disapoint they sang beautifully and the crowd showed their appreciation, clapping along, stomping in the stands and pumping their fists high in delight. (I will give a short summary from the song list given:) All and all one of the greatest nights of my life, I keep in touch with my old Biology teacher he went to the concert mainly for Mars Volta, I spoke to him today about the concert. He admitted to being in awe on the non-stop 2 hour performance System gave us, along with my other Friend they truly have found a new respect for the band. It;s totally a different atmosphere seeing them live compared to listening to their CD's.
Soldier’s Side
BYOB: Brought the roof off the stadium
Revenga: very undderrated song, one of my favorites on the album
Know: awsome to hear live, especially for Armenians
Hypnotize: Great song, already one of my favorites
Needles: Pull the tapeworm out of your ass!
Deer Dance: Also a great song, Serj was doing great improve for this song, brought the moshing to a frenzy.
Suggestions
Psycho: crazy shit, crowd rocking.
Chop Suey: Reminded me of the music video, a lot of Armenian flags flying around.
Kill Rock ‘n’ Roll: Daron would start, Hey, Hey, Rock N Roll is gayyyyy
Sad Statue: Very dark song, which I love as well
Violent Pornography: Daron blamed Bin Ladden, and Bush for making this song lol!
Mr. Jack: Awsome song, with a lot of Armenian Melody mixed in, The Fuck U Pig got great reaction.
Cigaro: Daron suggested his cock was bigger than ours, the girls loved that. Serj would start to jerk off his microphone.
This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I’m on This Song: mellowed out song.
Bounce: Daron would ask Shavo, " Shavo?" yes, Daron? What do you want to see Fresno do??? Shavo screamed BOUNNNCEEEEE and we did!
ATWA: great
Forest: awsome ass song
Lost in Hollywood: awsome song, brought out the lighters, we put our damn hands in the air for Daron.
Question!: Played great, awsome shit.
War?Funny robotic voice overs by Daron and his machine.
Prison Song: Funny shit here, Daron would sing, I buy my crack, my smack, my bitch right here in FRESNOOOO? Which got a great kick from the fans.

Toxicity: Surprised me they played this, I forgot about it.
Arieals:Great song as well.
Science/Suite-Pee. Daron got on the mic and said, this next song Science is dedicated to a man in a hat sitting behind the pit. He pointed over and said everyone this is for my father. The crowd saluted and applauded as Daron's father returned the salute!
Sugar: AREEE YOUUUU READDDDYYYYY TOOO RUMMMBLEEEE????? The craziest crowd reaction of the night. |
