i think they realised that they had become so popular that a channel as controversial as MTV was giving them worlds best alternative. they looked kinda bummed as though they thought they sold out ah well, none the less well done guys, no one deserves it more

Because they felt like they were being sold out. Sure, it's nice that they got all of those votes from their fans, but come on man, if me and My band ever got that far and we accepted a fucking award....yeah, I'd throw it to the ground and piss on it on stage while my Guitarist would tell everyone that MTV is full of shit, blah blah blah. In other words, they don't like attention. :)
