Albuquerque, NM July 4, 2006 Review |

4th of July is the best day ever to see a System of a Down concert. Not that I would know, I just know it was totally kickass. I’m not remembering the song order, but I remember all the events that happened that night.
The SOAD portion of Ozzfest started at 9:15 (it was supposed to start at 9:00! They kept me waiting for 15 minutes of pure torture!!) and was all over at about 11.
Soldier’s Side- Daron was the only one out on stage during this song. This was the only time that entire night that everyone in the audience was quiet. It was quite creepy actually. Played wonderfully, with full shivers down the spines of the audience.
Attack- Serj bounded onto the stage just as Soldier’s Side ended. Yes. Bounded. As the intro was playing, he was saying ‘what a wonderful Fourth of July he was having in hotter than hell, New Mexico’. The song began, the audience went nuts, and life was good. Song sounds much more meaningful and excellent live.
B.Y.O.B- I think this is the farthest that hat of Daron’s ever made it. Right as the song started, it was gone. The audience went even more nuts and Serj was tap dancing. At the end of the song, Daron spun around, fell to the ground, and went about having explicit relations with his guitar for a good 4 or 5 minutes. The song was great, save that Daron’s voice kinda cracked during the ‘Blast off’ part.
Revenga- Daron’s jacket completely disappears from the face of the earth and that’s about it.
Psycho- Daron yelled at the audience to clap. We obeyed. Daron yelled at the audience to dance as well as clap. We obeyed. Daron began doing the ‘Sugar’ dance and then the song started. Serj screams out ‘stop being a fucking whore’ during the song. Serj played this long and weird solo thing on his keyboard at the end. It was good, but long.
Kill Rock and Roll- Daron starts off by saying something along the lines of ‘Fuck you, fuck your heavy metal, and fuck your rock and roll’ Serj kind of giggles after this is stated, and then the song starts. More Serj tap dancing is seen during this song.
Violent Pornography- This song was started by a wonderful comment by Daron, but it was like 5 minutes long and I really don’t remember everything he said. Basically it was about how they sell us our minds, but they won’t sell him his mind, and how we need to win back our minds. During this song, Shavo came over to my side of the stage. I pointed at him. He noticed me and mah friend (mainly because we were standing on the chairs and she was wearing a white shirt) and pointed at himself. I nodded. He blew a kiss at me, and I was actually sort of confused by his actions, but it was all good, because that song kicks major ass.
Needles- Daron starts out by asking the audience what time it is. Being a smart ass, I scream out HAMMER TIME. Daron says, No. IT’S TIME… To pull the tapeworm... OUTTA YO ASS! More Daron and Shavo dancing is seen during this song.
Deer Dance- Nothing really special, just absolutely insane live...
Chop Suey- Audience loses what ever was left of their sanity. John and Shavo headbutt each other after the song is complete.
Question- Daron said a really weird sounding intro, but I don’t remember what he said. It was pretty weird soundin’ however. The song started, nobody in the audience knew the lyrics, and I lost all hope for humanity.
Radio/video- Daron was singing his parts like a total pimp. He sounded straight out of some old school blues band. It was quite funny. Serj was doing his harmonizing ‘ahs’ like it was nobody’s business. They made the audience scream out RADIO and VIDEO when the time came. The la-ing part was actually quite humorous, but I cannot quite word how humorous it was.
Old School Hollywood- they brought out this awesome looking keyboard contraption, and Daron went about singing the intro thing. Shavo begins singing the parts Daron ought be singing with him. It sounded hilarious. Daron points to Shavo and scream ‘Hey man! Don’t you touch mah belt!’ Shavo looks dismayed. Wonderfully played that night.
Lonely Day- Daron sings sadly. It makes me sad. The cameras (yes they were filming it and projecting it up onto gigantic screens) spliced together Daron and Serj scenes so it looked like they were looking at each other longingly. I giggled at that.
Cigaro- This song was intro’d by the following conversation.
Serj: We need a pit.
Shavo: Yes. We do. This is fucking Ozzfest, and we have yet to have a pit! [Points to random audience member] YOU! IN THE RED SHIRT! Commence the running in circles!
Daron: Dude, I see about 50 red shirts out there.
Shavo: [stares at Daron] [points again at audience member] YOU’RE IN CHARGE OF THE PIT! Start that pit!
Daron: I dunno, I still see about 50 red shirts you could’ve been pointing at.
Shavo: [sigh] FINE! [points again] YOU! RED SHIRT NUMBER 2! Start running in circles!!
Daron: Nooooo! Not yet! I’ve got a little song to sing first!!
Shavo: Ok. You may sing your little song. AND THEN you may start your pit!
At which point, Daron began to sing his little song, exactly how I’m typing it. I was there! I should know!
Daron: Ok... Mah cock! Iiiiis! Much bigger than yooours! Mah cock! Can walk riiight through that door! No seriously folks, it can!
At this point in time, I felt it absolutely fitting to scream out, ‘Mine is bigger than yours!’ Daron looked in my general direction, with a look of bewilderment on his face. That may be because a girl just yelled that hers was bigger than his, however, we shall never know. And he continued with the little song. It was ended with a lovely sounding operatic-like note. And then the song started. Life was good during that song.
Hypnotize- This song was played so greatly that night, there were tears in a lot of people's eyes. It was wonderful.
Sad Statue- Another ‘we don’t know the words’ song for the audience. SOAD looked kinda downtrodden because of the fact, so the song was kind of lacking.
Lost in Hollywood- this song was beautiful live, because it was so raw and unfooled around with. Daron puts the hat back on, and Serj sits down in front of John’s drum set and harmonizes in the background.
Toxicity- Daron loses his mind, Serj loses his mind, Shavo loses his mind, but John is still just kinda sitting back there banging on the drums like a child during a temper tantrum. The audience loves it, Daron loves that the audience is loving it, and dances. It was not a normal dance however, it was quite a frightening dance. I thought he was going to injure himself or something.
Sultans of Swing- Right after Toxicity ends, Daron breaks down and randomly sings the Dire Straits classic. Nobody else is playing during this. The audience is confused. I laugh hysterically, because I was totally not expecting that.
Aerials- During this song, the SOAD boys are starting to look tired, the audience is starting to look tired. Everyone sounded tired during this song, so it sounded kinda lazy and weird, but it was perfect that way.
Sugar- The last song of the night. I cry because this is mah favorite song, and this also spells the end for my lovely time at Ozzfest. Daron danced just like he used to. Serj dances around like a freak, and Shavo is bouncing along. It was a great way to end the night.

[shrug] Chic: yes, but... mah sister met Shavo in a food line. He was buying beer and nachos. I was sitting at the seats grimacing mah way through Disturbed.... [overly dramatic sigh]
