Daron Talks about 'Scars On Broadway' |

Guitarist uses a different system to show us his scars.
This is the first time Daron Malakian has sat down with a member of
the press to discuss his new band, Scars on Broadway. And unfortunately,
he's feeling a little frustrated.
"It's so hard to talk about this when no one's heard any music!" he says. "But
on the other hand, I'm glad I'm doing it, because I feel like it's the right
time. It's taken a long time to get to this point."
For
Malakian, who is better known as the guitarist from spazzy hard rockers System
Of A Down, Scars on Broadway has been a labor of love three years in the making.
He began writing material for the new band while still working on the music for
System's 2005 releases, Hypnotize and Mesmerize. Since then he's maneuvered
around System's busy schedule and recruited System drummer John Dolmayan to be
his partner in crime.
Right now, the duo are in the process of laying down tracks for Scars on
Broadway's debut album. Malakian describes the music as influenced by acts like
David Bowie, Brian Eno, and Roxy Music. "It'll still have some of metal's
textures," he says. "But if it gets aggressive, it'll more likely be in a rock
kind of way."
While Malakian has made a concerted effort to keep his two projects separate --
"I want to keep System, System, and Scars, Scars" -- he's not worrying about
climbing out from beneath the shadow of his other, more established band. "Both
projects are extensions of myself, of my writing. I know a lot of people will
compare the two, and to be honest, I don't think they'll be disappointed. Scars
is like a relative of System. They're two completely different bands, but
there's a clear connection, and I'm fine with that."

I think the Album will be really good because daron wrote the music and if you like system your sure too like scars it will be different because it's not system but it will ROCK.

I don't agree that if you like System you'll like Scars. Just because Daron is in it, doesn't mean it'll be good. Same with Serj's projects, although I do like his very much.

emip4p, he played a few solos on concerts, like psycho outro on BDO 02, and they were awsome, anyway, on the album versions the solos were too short but verry intensive and agresive, almost like I feel like flying every time I hear the good SOAD old songs, I think it'll be great if Daron plays guitar solos in this new release, and some drum solos is not a bad idea, I want to see John, like we say in Mexico, dandole en la madre a la pinche bateria y unos pinches solos mamalones, well, i hope you understand. ponchosoad, the SOAD biggest fan in Mexico

I think that Scars on Broadway will be good a lot! I love Serj solo album, and i think that his solo album has a connection with system of a down, but a can't write this connection. But im sure that if you hear the two albuns you will have an idea. And if Serj Album have type of connection with SOAD i think that SOB will have a bigger connection with system, more than serj solo album. Conclusion of my comment: Scars on Broadway will ROCK!!!
