The days of aspiring bands performing in relative obscurity waiting to be "discovered" may be a thing of the past thanks to the Internet. Through Internet-based platforms, bands can now share their passion for music with a global audience.

System of a Down Members' Side Projects
Posted by Boozeclues on Thursday, August 16, 2007 - 04:45 PM

The Bad Brains first video off of Build A Nation has been finished by director and System Of A Down member, Shavo. Shot at Sasquatch Festival and also Portland Oregon by famed cinematographer Danny Hiele (U2, Green Day, Kanye West), the concept caputures and merges punk and reggae. Thus, the main punk video "Give Thanks And Praises" is seen merging into the dub reggae of "Jah Love." It's a concept Shavo felt did justice to the band as being innovators of punk rock:

System_Of_A_Down_Shavo.jpgSystem Of A Down bassist Shavo Odadjian is not only spearheading the new internet musicians community urSESSION, he's also trying to put the finishing touches on the first album by his new band, Achozen.

The group features RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan, and Odadjian said it's a dream come true.

"Me and RZA working together making music? That's fun. I'll do that for free. It's not even time. I'll stay up all night and do a couple of shots and work. That's RZA. My friend and my bandmate is my idol and vice versa, and that's a trip. If anyone should know how RZA...what he's done to music. What he's done to hip-hop. What a change he's made to lyrics, and to beats and to hip-hop itself. But to have that guy respect me as much as I respect him, to do a band together and to know that we're there mentally boom (makes connection gesture).

Dazzling prog mob from deepest cowboy country
System of a Down Members' Side Projects

QUIETLY-SPOKEN Fair To Midland frontman Darroh Sudderth may be jet-lagged and a little disorientated by his first trip to London but the man has manners. Gold ole’ Texan manners, which means Kerrang! is pleasantly surprised to be politely called “Sir” throughout the band’s first interview.

It’s also a sign that the five-piece are smart. A bit different. Forthcoming second album ‘Fables Of A Mayfly: What I Tell You Three Times Is True’ is a complexity of aural riddles, an unashamed mind-bendingly prog record where songs are casually called such things as ‘(When The Bough Breaks) Say When (Ozymandias)’. If you’ve ever shaken a tail father – or moved a dragon in your dungeon - to Coheed & Cambria, The Mars Volta or Rush you should rightfully love FTM.
