I arrived at the Rolling Stone at 19.44, people were already inside. As I got
in, I left my backpack at the wardrobe and checked the T-shirt stand, but I
decided I could buy one after the show (wrong decision ), and I went into the
venue, which was way less crowded than I expected - when I saw Serj in April,
the Alcatraz was packed up to the ceiling.
Anyway, at 20 the opening band, Belladonna from Rome, began to play. 3 girls
and 2 guys (guitar and drums), 3 very good songs imo, the rest was decent,
though the singer sang all the songs in the same way. |

Our
willingness to accept music under different names has provided new options for
bands that might previously have been torn apart by creative differences. Scars
on Broadway, the new group featuring Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan
of the Grammy-winning metal band System of a Down, is a case in point.
“We took a break before we broke up,” admits Dolmayan, the drummer. “After 12
years, it’s not so much that you get tired of the people you’re with, it’s more
that you don’t have an identity. |

Daron Malakian Sets The Record Straight

Daron Malakian wants to make something perfectly clear. Scars on
Broadway is not some “side project” he’s doing until he and the rest
of System of a Down get back together. The former SOAD guitarist is
completely serious about his new band and all that goes along with it. Which
includes a debut album, (which is released July 29th), and an upcoming tour,
that will embark soon after the record’s release.
According to Malakian, this record is an evolution from where he left off
with SOAD, and he hopes a lot his diverse musical influences (The
Beatles, Van Halen, Slayer and Sex Pistols just to name a few) can be heard
throughout. Scars debut has everything from punk, classic rock, and the
ever present Middle Eastern influence as well. |
